Sportec Est. 1997
1997
Driven by the vision of making motorized dreams come true, Sportec was founded in 1997 by Ueli Hodel and Martin Högger with the goal of reinterpreting vehicle optimization and performance enhancement at the highest level. Andreas Hodel, an experienced technical and mechanical all-rounder, was there from the start and played a key role in building the company.
Fascinated by the possibilities of modifying and optimizing vehicles, the company founders were among the pioneers of tuning and performance enhancement in Switzerland.
With the principle that changes are only made if they serve the safety and service life of the vehicle, Sportec set the highest standards for vehicle optimization in Switzerland and beyond.
1998
Over the years, the company has expanded its focus and technical know-how to meet customer needs in the area of performance cars and classic cars.
In 1998, the first high-performance brakes under the Sportec brand were developed – other products soon followed.
2000-2001
Sportec also became known thanks to its award-winning in-house developments. The year 2000 marked the birth of the legendary Sportec RS4 B5 and the "Mono 10" rim, which was launched in 2001. Thanks to their timeless design, they are still a popular feature on modern vehicles today.
2005
In 2005, Sportec broke the world record for the fastest SUV with a Porsche Turbo SP 600M, officially measuring 308 km/h. This demonstrated that they were playing in the highest league of vehicle optimization. The record was maintained for over 10 years. Ueli Hodel and Günter Mandl took over the company in equal shares.
2006
In 2006, Sportec achieved manufacturer status, a achievement they look back on with pride to this day.
2008
In 2008, Sportec decided for the first time to produce its own vehicle. Based on a Porsche 997 Turbo, the SPR1 was created. A completely rebuilt vehicle with a weight of 1300 kg and a peak output of up to 900 hp. The SPR1 was limited to six units and is still one of the fastest road cars in the world today.
2010
Sportec has always had a close relationship with motorsport. Since many customers wanted to take their vehicles to the racetrack, a professional motorsport department was founded in 2010 with Andreas Hodel: Under the name "Sportec Motorsport" (now Sportec Racing), the racing team participated in various sprint and endurance races throughout Europe.
Sportec's many years of experience in racing still significantly influence the development and optimization of road vehicles today.
2012-2014
Sportec shows off its creative side. With the "Mono 7" wheel, another design classic from Sportec was launched in 2012. In 2013, a complete conversion of the 964-based F-model lightweight wheel followed, and in 2014, a 964 Porsche Carrera was converted into an RSR, weighing just over 1000 kg.
2018
Ernst Keller clinched the overall series title for Sportec Motorsport in the 911 GT3 Cup class at the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Suisse in Misano with two unchallenged race wins. Meanwhile, the Sportec family continues to grow and is joined by René Käppeli as Strategic and Administrative Managing Director.
2020
In 2020, long-time Sportec and Sportec Racing customer Gregor Burkard joined the company as the new owner and Managing Director. Supported by the two previous owners, Ueli Hodel and Günter Mandl, as well as the previous Managing Director, Andreas Hodel, exciting projects are once again being launched. New products are under development, and existing areas are being expanded with new resources. Sportec aims for even greater success in the next chapter of its company history.
2021
A new Sportec era begins. DTM star and sports car world champion Marcel Fässler, an experienced and well-known Swiss racing legend, is hired as team manager of the motorsport department. The first major success comes with an early overall victory in the Fanatec GT2 European Series in the AM class.
