My Story
In 2004, my Grandfather decided to sell his car due to his old age. Unfortunately, I was too young to stop him from taking this decision. When I was a child, we always took the car to the beach in Baku or to Shamkhor, Azerbaijan where my family comes from. Many years passed and after finishing school, I decided to move from Baku to Hamburg. My wish was always to have his Volga again. In 2017, I found his car by accident on an “Azerbaijani Automotive Market Website” named “www.turbo.az” and I bought it back from the new owner. During my visit to my family, I arranged the whole transportation from Baku to Hamburg in 2018. Since then I have been very happy to be the owner of my Grandfather’s car and it is much more important having the car back in our family.
A few months passed and as a young man who owns a classic car, I realised that there were only a few people in my city who owned a classic car of the same age as me. I started visiting several classic car shows and was shocked to find that more than half of all visitors were mostly over 50 years old. I asked my friends and many other young people why this is the way it is, but the answer was not really satisfying. In fact, almost all of them like classic cars. But if they had a choice between an old classic car and a brand new car, 8 out of 10 people would choose the newer car. But why?
“Old cars are not reliable, you can’t find parts, maintenance and repair costs are too high, I don’t have a garage etc.” There is so much bla, bla. The current mindset is better to have a car with all the new technical standards of which you use less than a third than to drive an old car that “could” cause problems. We have to take away this fear and the view of classic cars has to change! Now!
My Mission
My mission with Emil’s Garage is not just to show some cool classic cars only. No, not at all. My mission is to show the younger generation that classic cars are even more enjoyable than newer cars and at the same time not always hard to maintain or cost intensive as it looks like.
Let’s be honest. Nowadays it’s more important to HAVE something. Whether you need it or not. And that state of mind is exactly what need to change! Young people are increasingly losing the desire to drive! Memories should be created again! Having a good time with your family, friends and loved ones should be important again instead of HAVING or OWNING something. And which stories are always the most beautiful to tell? Well, the ones connected with an old car!
