The Porsche 992.2 Carrera T brings back the manuals!

With the Porsche 992.2 Carrera T, the Zuffenhausen-based sports car manufacturer is presenting the third derivative of the 911 Carrera after the Carrera GTS and the GT3 in 2024. The 911, which concentrates on the essentials, makes purists’ hearts beat faster for several reasons. With the 992 Carrera T facelift, Porsche is once again offering a 911 with a manual gearbox. In addition, the 992.2 Carrera T is now also available as a convertible – a first for a Carrera T.

The “puristic Carrera for superlative driving pleasure” is only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox

The focus of the new 911 Carrera T is similar to that of its predecessor: less weight and a more pronounced sound for even more emotion and driving pleasure! Porsche itself calls it the “puristic Carrera for superlative driving pleasure”. Thanks to lightweight glazing and less noise insulation, Porsche saves over 40 kilograms in the 992.2 Carrera T compared to the base model. Wie its weight at 1,478 kilograms in its lightest configuration with full bucket seats, the 2025 911 Carrera T sits neatly between the Carrera and GT3.

Porsche 992.2 Carrera T also comes as a Cabriolet for the first time

There are no surprises when it comes to the engine. As with the Porsche 991.2 Carrera T and 992 Carrera T, the Carrera engine is also used in the 992.2. The familiar 3.0-liter biturbo unit delivers 394 hp and 450 Newton meters in the new 911 T. Unlike the Carrera and Carrera GTS, both of which can only be ordered with Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), the Porsche 992.2 Carrera T is again available with a manual 6-speed gearbox. However, the manual gearbox is also the only option for the 911 T. PDK is not available in the Carrera T, even for an extra charge.

For the first time, a Carrera T Cabriolet comes with the facelift-992. The good news for fresh air fanatics, however, makes the decision against an optional PDK seem somewhat strange. The manual gearbox in the predecessor was anything but popular among Cabriolet drivers. More than 90 percent of all convertibles were ordered with the PDK. But in the Porsche 911 Carrera T, it is precisely the transmission that is to be brought to the fore as a unique selling point. After all, with the exception of Gordon Murray’s hypercars, there are simply no comparable cars available with three pedals.

The shifter itself is made of open-pore walnut wood. To ensure that everyone can see immediately that this is a genuine driver’s car, Porsche equips the Carrera T with an “MT” badge in the center tunnel, a large sticker on the rear triangular window showing the shifter gates and the same logo as LED exit lighting.

The Porsche 992.2 Carrera T is currently the only 911 model below the GT3 that is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Porsche demonstrates this with various stickers, badges and LED lighting.

The 992.2 Carrera T impresses with many exclusive features, but offers fewer customization options than the Carrera

Porsche models with the abbreviation T in their name are designed to impress with their driving experience. In the latest “Touring” model, this means: Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Active Suspension Management and rear-wheel steering as standard. The exclusively rear-wheel drive Porsche 992.2 Carrera T also features specific suspension tuning and optimized aerodynamics. Among other things, the spoiler lip was adopted from the Carrera GTS.

At the same time, Porsche is significantly limiting the customization options for the Carrera T. While the exterior color palette is similar to that of the Carrera, for the interior, Porsches seems to think “black is beautiful”. Although you can choose between Race-Tex and leather as a material, the base color always remains black. However, various design packages allow at least a few splashes of color to be added. Those who opt for the “Carrera T” design package receive gentian blue accents in the boot lid, the Carrera T foils and the front surfaces of the wheel rims, as well as gentian blue decorative stitching on the inside, for example. The dashboard surrounds, for example, can also be painted in the exterior color.

The new Porsche 992.2 Carrera T is now available to order at prices starting from 134,000 USD incl. VAT. This means that its base price is almost 14,000 USD higher than that of the 992.2 Carrera. Of course, if you play around a little in the Porsche configurator – which offers a really good experience, by the way – you will hardly come up with a total price of less than 150,000 euros.

Black is beautiful – with the 992.2 Carrera T, Porsche doesn’t just let buyers choose the gearbox. Black is the only base color available for the interior.
