The book Rough Roads to 911 Dakar traces the development of the first true off-road 911 in seven chapters. From the historic genes and development at the Porsche Development Center in Weissach to the extensive test and trial drives on several continents, impressive images document the creation of this special 911, limited to 2,500 units.
The impressive photos in this volume were largely taken by Christoph Bauer. The photographer, who has worked for Porsche for many years, has accompanied the entire vehicle development process-always closely alongside the developers. This has resulted in spectacular images, some of which can only be seen in this illustrated book. The texts were written by Stefan Anker.

The return of the rally legend
The Porsche 911 is the “only vehicle in which you can drive from a safari in Africa to Le Mans, then to the theater, and then across the streets of New York.” This quote from Ferry Porsche applies today more than ever. What was probably not meant literally at the time is effortlessly fulfilled by the new Porsche 911 Dakar. It can be driven at rally speed over scree, sand, or gravel roads without any problems and still cuts a fine figure in the evening in front of the opera. The ancestor of the 911 Dakar is the legendary 911 Carrera 3.2 4×4 Paris-Dakar (953), which triumphed in the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally. The revamped off-road Porsche manages the balancing act between road sport and off-road vehicle better than any other 911 before it.
