A Life In A Porsche 911
The 240-page book A Life In A Porsche 911 is dedicated to the advertisements and catalogs from more than 60 years of the Porsche 911, drawing on the author’s own archive of over 500 advertisements and catalogs as well as the archive of the Porsche Museum, which worked closely on this book. The sales success of the 911 is due not least to the simple, effective and sometimes provocative Porsche communication. The brand’s advertisements and catalogs are often little gems.
The author
François Bouet has been an automotive journalist for 20 years and writes for Hemming, Road-Story and Le Nouvel Automobiliste, among others. He is also the founder of www.podcast-moteur.com, a podcast platform for leisure activities on two and four wheels. Martine Renier (Auto Hebdo journalist, Paris Match, three-time participant in the Dakar Rally, 12th place in the 24 Hours of Le Mans) assisted him in validating the French part, Nicolas Laperruque with the stories from the Porsche universe and finally Roger Ellis , specialist French-English translator and automotive expert, to whom we owe the summary of the English version.
The author’s word:
I have worked as an automotive journalist for twenty years, and like many car enthusiasts, I have always loved Porsche, for its history, its uniqueness, its evolution. Having covered the Range Rover in an earlier book, it seemed unthinkable not to celebrate the 911’s sixtieth birthday. More than five hundred advertisements and catalogs, my archive and that of the Porsche Museum, with whom I worked closely, made this book possible. The success of the 911 is also explained by fair and precise communication that is simple, effective and sometimes a little provocative. See for yourself, the brand’s advertisements and catalogs are often little gems.
As is so often the case, this book is the realization of a wish: to create a book that is different from those found in bookstores. While there are many books on the 911, some of them of very high quality, it was necessary to cover the subject in a way that had never been seen before. There is nothing like the art and the way Porsche has talked about and gotten people to talk about the 911 since its inception. That has now happened. I sincerely hope that the reader enjoys reading “A Life in the Porsche 911” as much as I enjoyed writing it.
