SPORTEC SUB1000 – The essence of purist driving

Swiss Porsche specialists SPORTEC are already well known within the scene. The vehicle refiners from Höri near Zurich proved their innovative strength with the extremely detailed backdate called Ferdinand. In late summer 2023, SPORTEC presented the next masterpiece with the SUB1000 prototype. The next step followed in March 2025: the delivery of the first customer vehicle in the SUB1000 series marked the start of a new chapter for the Swiss Porsche specialists.

Minimalism in perfection, lightweight construction without compromise

As the name suggests, one of the most important development goals of the SPORTEC SUB1000 was to reduce its weight to less than 1,000 kilograms. This reduction to the essentials enables the Swiss Porsche 911 Backdate to achieve maximum dynamics and an unadulterated driving experience. But despite all the euphoria for weight reduction, SPORTEC offers many technical innovations that turn the SUB1000 into a radical driving machine. It offers state-of-the-art technology, without having to compromise on aesthetics, functionality and future-proofing.

Nut & bolt restoration as the basis for perfection from the ground up

SPORTEC uses a Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 G-model as the base for the SUB1000. These have to undergo a complete nut & bolt restoration to meet the highest standards of the Swiss manufacturer. It means completely dismantling and rebuilding of a vehicle down to the smallest detail – every nut and every bolt is reworked or replaced. “For us, this means that the chassis is not only restored to its original condition, but also re-welded, reinforced and adapted for the SUB1000 specification”, says Head of Marketing Lukas Neyer.

Reduced to the max – the Swiss vehicle refiners at SPORTEC manufactured the first SUB1000 according to this motto.

The new body is true to the motto “lightweight construction without compromise”. The body parts, i.e. bumpers, hood, doors, trunk lid and fenders, are made of carbon kevlar. This not only significantly reduces weight, but also drastically increases rigidity. To give the SUB1000 a powerful appearance, the Swiss use specially manufactured deep-drawn sheet metal. This creates enough space for wider wheels. And there is no insulation material in the interior. Only sheet metal and paint separate the driver from the road, for a completely unfiltered driving experience. The result with a ready-to-drive weight of 990 kilograms means a total weight saving of more than 200 kilograms.

Motorsport-level electronics make the SUB1000 future-proof

In order to achieve the ambitious development goals, SPORTEC also used the expertise of its in-house Sportec Racing Team. For example, a motorsport tank was installed and the electronics completely revised. Its completely redesigned wiring harness brings state-of-the-art CAN bus functions to the SUB1000. This enables seamless communication between the electronic components. This means that the Swiss 911 backdate is ideally prepared for digital upgrades and new functions. Its digital motorsport fuse box also ensures precise control options and increases reliability.

Its engine also exudes motorsport spirit

The Sportec SUB1000 engine no longer has much in common with the 231 hp engine of the 3.2 Carrera. Its boxer engine, with an enlarged displacement of 3.6 liters, has been extensively revised. It even features an individual throttle body system, among other things. This allows the intake air flow to be controlled with Swiss precision and makes the engine respond much more directly. Thanks to the digital engine control, the associated modernized parameters of the sequential injection or the single-spark ignition system can be automatically adjusted within milliseconds. Although the engine is mechanically designed to be very extreme, this ensures outstanding driveability in everyday use.

The completely redesigned electronics also allow the driver to change the engine map via a red aluminum switch. In sport mode, the engine responds even more sensitively to throttle commands and develops its power even more aggressively. The result is 345 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Thanks to an optimized oil cooling system with electronic fan and additional oil cooler, the engine runs within the optimum temperature window even in extreme situations. SPORTEC therefore guarantees not only the best performance, but also maximum reliability.

The suspension enables unimagined dynamics and agility in the SPORTEC SUB1000

To ensure that SPORTEC’s performance-focussed backdate also meets the highest demands in terms of lateral dynamics, the Swiss company developed a completely customized motorsport suspension together with MCS. The rebound and compression adjustable dampers are of the highest quality, both technically and visually. Their nitrogen-filled expansion tanks on the inside are a real feast for the eyes. The compression damping can even be adjusted in the high-speed range to adapt the handling perfectly both on the race track and on winding roads – real racing know-how for the road!

The motorsport suspension is a cooperation between SPORTEC and MCS.

None other than three-time overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Marcel Fässler, was responsible for the final set-up. It is therefore not surprising that the steering ratio in the SUB1000 has also been made even more direct. As a result, the flyweight shines with maximum agility, especially when changing direction quickly.

SPORTEC combines state-of-the-art technology with classic elegance

Despite all its racing technology, the Sportec SUB1000 is not an unpolished racing car. Rather, it is excellently crafted in every detail and as individual as its drivers thanks to the countless configuration options. And it draws on tasteful, classic accents to perfectly combine elegance and state-of-the-art technology. The modern-shaped bucket seats, for example, are lined with Blackwood Vintage leather and rounded off with three-tone Pepita inserts and classic-looking eyelets on the leg rests.

SPORTEC uses that stylistic device of circular holes and eyelets also on the running boards, the pedals and even the parcel shelf under the rear window. Here, the black/white/orange Pepita fabric even peeks through the openings – just like on the seats. And as befits a racing-inspired backdate Porsche, the armrest and door opener have given way to two straps. Of course, their design corresponds to the seats. The design line thus runs through the entire interior.

The technical highlights in the interior are undoubtedly the roll cage in the rear, the pedals milled from solid material and the extremely delicately crafted gear lever. Milled parts of such high quality are otherwise only found in absolute high-end racing cars. And despite the extremely sporty design, there is no lack of practical details either: the Swiss even installed a storage compartment with cup holder on the passenger seat and a USB socket in the dashboard.

Many little details like the milled gear lever and the Pepita fabric in the parcel shelf give the SPORTEC1000 its particularly individual finish.

“The essence of SPORTEC is performance, precision and individuality”

“It fills us with pride that the countless hours of work on the prototype are now bearing fruit and we can deliver the first cars. The SUB1000 is a perfect example of our values. The essence of SPORTEC is performance, precision and individuality”, summarizes the proud SPORTEC CEO Gregor Burkard. SPORTEC is planning a total of six further deliveries in 2025. In addition to two vehicles from the Ferdinand series, four SUB1000 will be handed over to their new owners. This marks a significant moment for the vehicle refiners from Höri near Zurich, who are thus ushering in a new era in the company’s history.
