Porsche has been offering new infotainment systems for its classic cars since 2020. In the guise of the classic original radios, drivers of classic Porsche sports cars thus gain access to the world of Apple Carplay or Android Auto. They are called Porsche Classic Communication Management and Classic Communication Management Plus. Up to now, the devices have been available as a DIN version for all air-cooled Porsche 911s and as a double-DIN version (PCCM Plus) for the 996 and Boxster 986. Porsche now offers its PCCM Plus for 987 and 997 models as well.
“There is huge demand for contemporary networking of our timeless classics”, says Ulrike Lutz, Head of Porsche Classic. Shortly after the market launch of the PCCM Plus versions up to and including Porsche 996, Porsche received a lot of inquiries as to when the system would also be launched for the 997. According to Porsche Classic boss Ulrike Lutz, this was the initial spark for the expansion course: “This is why we’re now significantly extending our range of Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus devices for retrofitting.”
The functional advantages of these full-fledged infotainment systems are obvious. Internet connectivity, DAB+ radio and the latest versions of Android Auto and Apple Carplay are available on the PCCM Plus. The screen diagonal of the PCCM Plus touchscreen measures 7 inches. In addition to the Cayenne, the devices are available for the Porsche 997 and 987 Boxster/Cayman. However, only for cars until the 2008 model year.
Unlike many non-OEM radios, Porsche Classic Communication Management Plus can be used without adapting the peripherals. The amplifier, speakers or antenna can continue to be used unchanged. According to Porsche, the navigation display in the instrument cluster also remains fully functional. By using the model-specific switches and knobs, the PCCM Plus units blend perfectly into the cockpit of the Porsche 987/997.
Another advantage of the PCCM Plus is that it is networked with the car’s data. This means that personal vehicle settings can be entered and saved directly in the Communication Management System. Depending on the equipment, lights, windshield wipers, air conditioning and locking can thus be permanently personalized.
The new Porsche Communication Management Plus for the Cayenne, 997 and 987 costs 1,520.37 euros. It is available either from Porsche Centers themselves or the Porsche Classic Online Shop. The map material must be ordered separately.
