Porsche 992.2 GT3 (Touring) – All you need to know about the 992 GT3 Facelift model!

The Porsche 992.2 GT3 was presented to the world public at the former Grand Prix circuit in Hockenheim. Unusually soon after the introduction of the facelift model 992.2, Andreas Preuninger, Walter Röhrl and Jörg Bergmeister presented the sporty spearhead of the new 911 generation. We have compiled all the information on the new Porsche 992.2 GT3 and GT3 Touring for you!

Externally, the 992.2 has been refreshed with new headlights, bumpers and more downforce

Porsche’s GT department around Andreas Preuninger was not faced with an easy task. The Porsche 992 GT3 had already set the bar so high in the super sports car segment that even the most creative minds would have found it difficult to identify potential for improvement. But in Weissach Flacht they are persistent and obsessed with detail. They have made the new Porsche 992.2 GT3 (Touring) even more streamlined and aerodynamic.

This starts with the revised front end. Thanks to the LED matrix headlights, no additional lights are required at the front bumper. The contours of the front splitter have also been adapted and enlarged. It reaches just in front of the front wheels and generates more downforce than its predecessor. The air deflectors on the underbody are also larger and more complex. Thanks to this flow optimization on the underside of the vehicle, the new GT3 generates more downforce than its predecessor, while at the same time reducing drag.

There are also significant changes at the rear. The bumper itself has been given a simplified design that appears less jagged than its predecessor. While the gooseneck wing supports remained largely the same, the GT department significantly modified the rear wing. As a result, the end plates in the facelift 992 GT3 are shaped in the opposite direction to their predecessor. They are reminiscent of the wing of the 991.2 GT3 RS. Weissach’s engineers also modified the air intake on the engine cover in order to supply the engine with more fresh air.

The Porsche 992 GT3 facelift gets the digital dashboard without analog instruments – but the key on the left makes a comeback!

Purists and traditionalists must be strong. Like the Porsche 992.2 Carrera and Carrera GTS, the 911 GT3 of model year 2025 will also have a completely digital instrument panel. The era of analog instruments is finally over at Porsche. A small detail reminiscent of motorsport in days gone by: the digital rev counter can be turned so that the maximum speed of 9,000 rpm is at 12 o’clock.

The all-electric dashboard from the Carrera is used in the Porsche 992 GT3 facelift. However, the more classic ignition switch is back!

But Porsche has a surprise up its sleeve in the interior! While the classic ignition key in the Carrera models had to make way for a start button, the GT3 once again has a more or less classic ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel!

A folding lightweight carbon bucket seat is also available. This offers a nice additional feature, especially for racetrack drivers: part of the headrest can be removed for improved ergonomics when driving with a helmet. In the GT3 Touring, the loop-activated folding function allows access to the rear seats, available for the first time in a GT3. Alternatively, there are the familiar adaptive Sports Seats Plus with electric 18-way adjustment.

Engine output of the Porsche 992.2 GT3 (Touring) remains at 510 hp

The 4.0 liter six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine had to be tuned to meet even stricter emissions regulations. Thanks to camshafts from the 992 GT3 RS, revised cylinder heads and flow-optimized individual throttle bodies, it was possible to maintain the output of 510 hp despite two particulate filters and four catalytic converters.

Under the flow-optimized engine cover is a further revised 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine with 510 hp.

However, torque was reduced by 15 Nm to 450 Nm. In contrast to the 992.2 Carrera models, Porsche also offers a manual 6-speed gearbox in addition to the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK).

Thanks to an eight percent shorter transmission ratio, the acceleration values in the facelift-992 GT3 remained constant at 3.4 seconds (PDK) or 3.9 seconds with manual transmission in the standard sprint to 100 km/h. However, the shorter gear ratio takes its toll on the top speed. Here, instead of 318/320 km/h, “only” 311 or 313 km/h are possible.

Lots of fine-tuning to the steering and chassis, lighter wheels and lithium-ion battery as standard

Jörg Bergmeister reported during the presentation that the new GT3 is even smoother and easier to drive over curbs and bumps thanks to optimized damper tuning. A new anti-dive system also noticeably minimizes pitching when braking.

Especially on winding country roads, you can clearly feel that the steering is even better tuned than on the predecessor.

Walter Röhrl about the new Porsche 992.2 GT3

In order to keep the weight low despite the heavy emission control system, Porsche had to dig deep into its bag of tricks. The new rims reduced the unsprung masses by over 1.5 kilograms. A lithium-ion starter battery with 40 Ah saves a further four kilograms. As a result, the weight in the lightest configuration remains at 1,420 kilograms.

Porsche offers even more customization options and packages for the 992.2 GT3 (Touring)

Porsche is particularly proud of the even higher level of individualization that is possible in the 992 GT3 facelift. For the first time, customers can order an optional Weissach package in the 992.2 GT3. This makes the GT3 even more uncompromisingly tuned for the racetrack.

Among other things, it consists of a range of carbon parts: anti-roll-bar, coupling rods, thrust field on the rear axle, roof, rear wing end plates, mirror shells, mirror triangle and airblades at the front. Low-reflection Racetex covers on the dashboard, Cfk door pull handles and storage nets are also part of the Weissach package. Magnesium forged wheels and a carbon roll cage are also available on request.

The Porsche 992.2 GT3 Touring comes with an optional lightweight construction package. It also includes the chassis parts and the roof made of carbon fiber, magnesium forged rims and lightweight door panels. The Touring also comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, including a shortened gearshift from the 911 S/T.

Porsche also offers the Clubsport package as a no-cost option for the 992 GT3. This includes a steel roll cage, 6-point seat belts for the driver and a hand fire extinguisher. However, lightweight sports bucket seats are required for this.

Will the Porsche 992.2 GT3 be the last naturally aspirated GT car without hybrid-drive?

The fact that Porsche is presenting a new GT3 generation for the first time, whose acceleration has not been improved and whose top speed is even inferior to its predecessor, shows one thing very clearly: even the engineers in Weissach cannot work miracles and have to go to extreme lengths to offer a road-legal sports car with a naturally aspirated engine and without hybridization at all.

This raises a question that is already regularly discussed in the community. Could it be that the Porsche 992.2 GT3 and GT3 Touring are the last GT cars with a naturally aspirated engine without hybrid support? Or perhaps even the last Porsche with a naturally aspirated engine ever? We would undoubtedly miss the highly emotional power unit. It would be a bitter loss for all purists and sports car fans. But who knows what the future holds…
