With the launch of the new Porsche 992.2 Carrera S, the Stuttgart-based company is expanding its range in the current 911 model series. As with its predecessors, the Carrera S closes the gap between the basic Carrera and the powerful Carrera GTS with t-Hybrid. The 480 hp S model offers more power, more equipment and options, but is only available with rear-wheel drive. We have summarized everything you need to know about the “most dynamic 911 Carrera S of all time”.
While Porsche has integrated a hybrid drive into the 911 for the first time with the 992.2 Carrera GTS, the new Carrera S remains true to the pure combustion engine concept. According to Porsche, its 3.0-liter six-cylinder biturbo boxer engine has been fundamentally revised. The result is 480 hp and 530 Nm. Incidentally, maximum power is available at a speed of 7,500 rpm, which is unusually high for a turbo engine, suggesting plenty of revving pleasure. However, the Carrera S does not achieve the torque of the 992.1 GTS. One of the reasons for this could be the stricter emissions standards.
However, the data already suggests it: The engine is based on the familiar and proven 9A2 power unit, which was already used in the 991.2. However, it has been garnished with new turbochargers and intercooling based on the 992 Turbo, so that its peak performance is on a par with that of the 992.1 Carrera GTS. This is also reflected in the driving performance. At 3.3 seconds from zero to 62 mph, the new Carrera S is gradually moving into areas that not even a Turbo S could reach a few years ago, putting even the 911 S/T in the shade. Its top speed of 191 mph also leaves little to be desired. Even the current GTS is only 2 mph faster and only takes an academic three tenths off the 992.2 Carrera S in the sprint to 62 mph.
However, the Carrera S doesn’t offer different drivetrain layouts at all. As with the regular Carrera, the sharper model is only available with rear-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is therefore reserved for the GTS. Carrera S buyers in 2025 will also have to live with the undoubtedly great 8-speed PDK transmission. Anyone wanting a manual gearbox will have to opt for the Carrera T. However, there will at least be coupé and cabriolet body variants available at market launch.
Porsche has raised the facelifted 992 Carrera S to a new level, and not just in terms of longitudinal dynamics. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) is part of the standard equipment and includes an electronically controlled rear axle lock. It also enables targeted braking interventions on one side. Behind the 20 and 21-inch Carrera S wheels is the brake system familiar from the GTS with red brake callipers and 408 mm brake discs at the front and 380 mm at the rear. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) is of course available as an option. Its sports exhaust system is on board as standard.
The Carrera S’s high standards of quality and exclusivity are also reflected in the interior. Porsche equips the sports car with a black leather package as standard.

The PASM sports suspension, including 10 mm lowering and revised damper hydraulics, is available as an option. In combination with the optional rear-axle steering and front-axle kinematics, Porsche promises even more agile and precise handling. The price: 2,249.10 euros for the rear axle steering and 1,088.85 euros for the PASM sports suspension. For an additional charge, there is also a front axle lift system for 2,356.20 euros and the Sport Chrono Package for 2,082.50 euros.
The leather package in the interior, on the other hand, is standard equipment. In contrast to the Carrera, the seats, headrests, door panels and optional rear seats in the new Porsche 992.2 Carrera S are already upholstered in leather. An extended leather package is also available as an option, which includes leather upholstery for the glove compartment cover, side panels and seat floor as well as contrasting chalk stitching on request. Incidentally, this extended leather interior in the 992.2 Carrera S costs a good 1,200 euros less than in the Carrera and is available from 2,725.10 euros.
As expected, the 992.2 Carrera S, visually garnished with some GTS parts such as the centrally positioned exhaust system and modified diffuser, lies exactly between the Carrera T and Carrera GTS. Both in terms of performance and price. With a base price of 154,800 euros, the Carrera S closes the gap of almost 30,000 euros between the T and GTS – 141,700 to 170,600 euros – almost in the middle.
Porsche itself speaks of the most dynamic 911 Carrera S of all time. Perhaps the engineers in Zuffenhausen have even succeeded in making it so dynamic that its big brother, the GTS, will have to prepare itself. Although it has – thanks to the t-Hybrid system – another 61 hp and 81 Nm more, it also has to move considerably more weight. Depending on the equipment, the weight advantage in favor of the Carrera S is between 80 and 115 kilograms. In everyday driving, though, the purely dynamic differences are likely to remain negligible.
And so the new Porsche 911 Carrera S is a sporty combustion engine in the portfolio that offers more power and a touch more luxury than the Carrera T, without the technological complexity of the GTS.
