“A classic car is still a hot commodity” – Classic Expo 2024

What a weekend! The Classic Expo at the Salzburg exhibition halls marked the traditional end of the classic car season in Austria. As in the previous year, the Elferspot team was represented with a stand. The exhibition attracted large crowds with its extensive vehicle offerings, special exhibits, and massive parts market. We’re taking you on a – admittedly quite Porsche-heavy – review of the 2024 Classic Expo!

A year of anniversaries – much to celebrate at the Classic Expo

2024 was a year of anniversaries at the Classic Expo, celebrating, for example, 60 years of the Mercedes 600 and 75 years of Abarth. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911, Hall 9 was entirely dedicated to Porsche. The Hans-Peter Porsche Traumwerk presented a special exhibition of turbocharged Porsche models from all eras. Here, visitors could admire not only a Porsche 930 Turbo but also a 924 Carrera GT, 997 GT2, 991 Turbo S Exclusive, and even a Kremer K2 race car.

Nearby, the restoration experts from Boxer Motor displayed various projects, including a 911 body prepared for restoration as well as a special treat: a 930 Turbo with a livery inspired by the 1973 IAA prototype. At Daniel Höllinger’s stand from R&H Automobile, other highlights awaited. Whether a Porsche 991 Carrera S “50 Years of 911”, a 993 Turbo S, or the charmingly patinated 1969 911 S Targa, there was something for everyone.

Two seemingly modest cars particularly impressed the Elferspot crew: A Porsche 996.1 Carrera with a factory Aero-Kit in exceptionally well-maintained condition and a virtually new 968 with a magenta interior and only 24,000 kilometers on the clock gave some visitors pause. But that wasn’t all! At RR Motors, framed by two Porsche 993 Turbos, stood a Porsche 918 Spyder! Naturally, the million-dollar supercar was one of the most photographed items over the three exhibition days.

In Salzburg, there were so many rare Porsche models it made your head spin

At Automobile Pühringer’s stand, true treasures were on display as well. Picking a single highlight was not easy, but the Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 undoubtedly ranks as part of the modern Porsche Olympus. Next to various Porsche 991 GT3 variants and, for example, a 964 Cabriolet with an amethyst interior, equally exciting exhibits stood side by side.

For fans of classic 911s, Dr. Georg Konradsheim‘s stand featured a wonderful time capsule. The dove-blue Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa with less than 35,000 kilometers captured the true time-traveling spirit! At the Wagenwerk stand, rarities like a Porsche 992 Dakar and one of the last Porsche 993 Cups were also on display. The Autosalon Isartal came in full force with numerous 911s from all eras, including a rare 997 Speedster. We also captured our personal highlights in video form for you.

The offline Elferspot at the Classic Expo – Meeting point for Porsche fans with unique exhibits

In 2024, we were once again present with an offline Elferspot at the Classic Expo. As in the previous year, we shared a stand with our partners from Drehwerk. Peter Christian Mayr and Andreas Kirchmayr, as confirmed by your numerous positive feedbacks, prepared a wonderful stand in Hall 10. Under the chandelier, the Petrolblue was not on display this year. In line with the color theme “Black is beautiful”, we quickly organized the transport of the “third” 993 Speedster to the Classic Expo Salzburg together with Christian Reyer.

Alongside the Speedster, we had a selection of accessories, books, and gadgets with us. For example, the Porsche 930 Turbo engine we assembled the evening before the fair, and the various Advent calendars. Many visitors took the opportunity to browse the new coffee table book “The Porsche Book” and gather some gift inspirations for the holiday season.

World premiere of our new Renndienst series!

We were particularly proud of our new shirts and hoodies. In addition to the recently released IROC shirt, we showcased the new items from our Renndienst series for the first time! The dark red T-shirts and hoodies made from organic cotton are a homage to the backbone of Porsche’s racing department in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, where VW buses were used as mobile service stations.

Live program at Elferspot – Designer Tadas Malinauskas as a special guest

As if we weren’t already overwhelmed by the numerous conversations, we also had the pleasure of welcoming Tadas Malinauskas to our booth. The designer, who works for Studio F.A. Porsche in Zell am See, took the time to sketch live on site. With just a sheet of paper and a ballpoint pen, he transformed, for example, the view of a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 ducktail into a brilliant design sketch. Watching a true virtuoso at work was a real highlight!

Designer Tadas Malinauskas created true works of art at the Elferspot booth.

With so many conversations and interactions, the three exhibition days naturally flew by. Thank you for your abundant feedback. It was fantastic to hear how many of you had already had positive experiences on our platform, had found cars through Elferspot, or were in the process of selling one through us. We were also surprised by the number of visitors from last year who returned to our stand.

The Classic Expo, with a consistent attendance of 23,000 visitors, also clearly demonstrated that the interest in classic and special vehicles remains strong. Especially when the offering is as extensive as it is at the Classic Expo. Alongside all the beautiful Porsches, there were also numerous Aston Martins, BMWs, Ferraris and Mercedes to admire. Even priceless one-of-a-kind pieces like the Isdera Erator, conceived and built by longtime Porsche and Buchmann employee Eberhard Schulz, were on display. That’s why Classic Expo founder Hermann Schwarz is certainly right when he says that “a classic car is still a hot commodity.”

The 23,000 visitors confirm that a classic car is still a hot commodity, and are the greatest reward for us.

Hermann Schwarz, Founder of Classic Expo
