The New Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Three years ago, Porsche presented the first Cayman GT4. With the beginning of the year 2019, Porsche is now presenting its successor. The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. What is new is that the mid-engine Porsche is now available in two variants. For ambitious amateur racers there is the model “Trackday.” For national and international competitions you can order the version “Competition”.

Parts made of natural fibers

What’s new and special is that the new Porsche 718 Cayman Gt4 has body parts made from a natural-fibre composite material for the first time. The doors of the vehicle and the rear wing are made of a special organic fibre mix, which consists primarily of agricultural by-products such as flax or hemp fibers and in terms of weight and stiffness is very similar to the material carbon fiber.

Flat-Six boxer engine with 425 hp

The drive for the Porsche 718 GT4 Clubsport is a 3.8-liter flat-six boxer engine with 313 kW (425 hp). Compared to its predecessor, this means a power increase of at least 40 hp. The transmission of power to the rear axle is handled by the Porsche dual-clutch transmission (PDK) with six gears and mechanical rear axle cross-lock. The lightweight strut front suspension comes from the big brother 911 GT3 Cup. The generously dimensioned brake system is equipped with diameter of the front and rear of each 380 mm large steel brake discs. At 1,320 kilograms, the new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is a real lightweight.

Two options

Trackday:

The base version “Trackday” has a fixed shock absorber adjustment, which in combination with the ABS, ESC and traction control systems, which can be switched off if necessary, ensures good-natured driving behavior in the border area. Also included as standard are air conditioning, a rescue hatch in the roof, a hand fire extinguisher and a 80 liter FT3 safety tank. The vehicle is not road legal, but of course it can be maintained in all Porsche Centers. The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport “Trackday” costs 134,000 euros plus country-specific VAT.

Competition:

The “Competition” model has many competitive features. So the shock absorbers are three times adjustable. The safety tank with 115 liters capacity is also suitable for long distance races. The brake balance can be infinitely adjusted via a balance beam system between the front and rear axles. The detachable racing steering wheel from the Porsche 911 GT3 R provides numerous adjustment options in the driver’s field of vision. For even better safety in racing, there is an automatic fire extinguishing system. The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport “Competition” is available at a price of 157,000 euros plus country-specific VAT.

Both variants can be ordered from now on and will be delivered to teams and drivers around the world starting in February.
