The enthusiasm for automobiles in general and those for Porsche in particular is expressed in many different ways. On Instagram we came across the account of Kai (@kai.garage) and we are excited about it. Kai staged small model cars and photographed them creatively with his iPhone. We asked Kai a few questions so you can get to know a little bit.
Hey Kai! Thanks for having you for this Elferspot-interview. Please tell us something about you as a person. Who are you?
Hi Markus, thanks for having me. My name is Kai Huang and I do commercial and editorial photography for a living. While I’m currently based in Manila, Philippines, I do get to travel a bit for some assignments.
We discovered you on Instagram. You have a great passion for diecast cars. How came it?
It’s really the love for real life automobiles that led me to scaled diecast cars. When I look back at my kiddie photos, I always have a toy car in my hand or in my pocket. I guess the passion started rather young and never left. I also shoot real cars for TopGear Philippines and previously for C! magazine and Evo magazine (Philippines)

When did you start to make photos of diecast cars?
I started collecting again early 2018 and was surprised on how detailed and scaled some of the 1/64 diecast cars are! Specially with the likes of Tomica Limited Vintage series and Kyosho 64. So casually, I started taking photos to see how much realism I can make with them using what I would normally do when I shoot real life size cars. In return it also helped me visualize on how to do creative lighting when I actually work on real life cars. The only difference now is am using my desktop lamps and my iPhone 8 Plus.

At least, what is your favorite car in real life and which one would you choose?
That’s easy… it’s a Porsche 911 2.7RS
Thank you Kai!
