Typ901 - Classic Porsche Expert

The story begins in the 1980s, when Stéphane Vrinat, the driving force behind the Typ901 project, developed an ever-growing passion for sports cars. The era produced some of the most iconic cars in history, the “sacred monsters” of the automotive world, such as the Ferrari F40 and the Porsche 959.

During this period, Stéphane observed that the philosophy of the German brand Porsche aligned perfectly with his sports car ideal: efficiency, durability, reliability and, most importantly, a sense of modesty compared to the more extravagant Italian brands.

It would take over 25 years for Stéphane’s dream to become a reality. He often commented: “At the beginning of the century, prices for my favourite model dropped significantly. In France, it is possible to find a Porsche 930 in good condition for around 20,000 euros.” Eventually, he discovered his dream car: a 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo with 125,000 kilometers on the odometer, painted in “Indian Red” with a black interior. He purchased it over the phone from Barcelona without ever seeing it in person. It was a bold move, and his main concern was whether the turbo engine, given its “high mileage,” would still perform well.

That Porsche 930 marked the beginning of Stéphane’s collection. Over the next few years, he owned several 930s, including three different 930 models (a cabriolet, a 4-speed, and a 5-speed), a RUF BTR, a 3.0 SC Targa, several 3.2 models, two 993 Turbos, a 928 GTS, and two 993 Cabriolets, among others. However, the turning point came in 2014, when he decided to sell his beloved daily driver, a 993 Carrera 2 Cabriolet in Indian Red, to fund his ambitious new project: the Typ901.

From that point on, Stéphane’s focus shifted completely. He devoted himself to acquiring spare parts, tools and machinery, while also taking on restoration projects that would lay the foundations for the Typ901 Project.
