Namibia offers what makes the heart of a true adventurer beat faster! A mix of unforgettable sights, prime wildlife safaris, diverse African culture and challenging driving experiences through this timeless land of arid deserts, majestic sand dunes, coastal areas and unpopulated places with wide-open spaces in between. Close your eyes and you will only hear the lonely desert wind passing through… the country is, after all, one of the most sparsely populated independent countries on earth.
Mind-blowing landscapes, wildlife safaris, vast open spaces and untouched nature… Welcome to the soul of Africa: Namibia!
The ten-day Beyond Adventure starts close to Windhoek, the capital, from a private game reserve to get simply adjusted to African vibes. The next day it is time to get into the cars and follow wide open and seemingly endless gravel roads towards no-man’sland. First stop is the spectacular Sossusvlei and the world’s oldest desert, the Namib Desert with its great sand sea and unforgettable views. The journey continues towards the Atlantic Ocean and the Skeleton Coast with its rugged shoreline waiting.
Damaraland and its fascinating rock formations and desert-adapted wildlife cannot be missed before we reach Etosha National Park – one of the best wildlife safari destinations in Africa with a vast saline desert and natural springs that support an astonishing array of indigenous species. The variety and sheer number of animals is outstanding and a truly fascinating destination waiting to be explored in Safari style. Before returning to Windhoek, a short stop at the Africat Foundation in Okonjima is on the programme.
For this outstanding adventure prepare for spectacular views, abundant wildlife and unforgettable overnight stays under the clear African skies. Experience this and so much more on yet another once-in-a-lifetime experience through the windscreen of our special Safari-ready Porsche 911 and Cayenne fleet.
Excellence paired with passion, adventure and precision
Beyond Adventure is all about exploring the world on passionate and unique driving adventures. Getting from A to B will become your experience not just transport. We offer you to explore “bucket-list” destinations, all behind the steering wheel of the most suitable vehicle for the challenges.
We dare to motivate you to go where no-one normally goes and we want to exceed your expectations with our one-of-its-kind concepts. With this experiences, we redefine automotive adventures and via distinctive customer teamwork you can extend your network and create friendships. When joining a Beyond Adventure you will become part of a passionate team and will immediately feel our uniqueness in how we do things.
Jan Kalmar Beyond Adventure was established by Jan Kalmar – an adventurer, petrol head and extreme driver who is constantly exploring the planet on four wheels. This life-long passion has led to an extensive network. Jan has bent the limits for automotive challenges for over 20 years and even set world records in the process.
Individual Approach
For us the experience must be distinctive – we supply the best service wherever we go but never lose the flexibility and individual approach. Therefore have we developed an unique classic rally-style driving concept for Beyond Adventure, not competing for the fastest time but instead for the most precise timing. This means you drive and navigate by yourself independently. Of course, the support team is always close by and for the most challenging stages, the entire group stays together.
Your Team
The passion for adventures is deep within our vastly experienced event team. We always aim for the best possible comfort and always ensure you are never alone. In case of an emergency, break down or a simple puncture, there is a solution assisted by the Beyond Adventure team. So, although you drive solo, you are never alone, even in the most remote areas. On special adventures a Beyond Adventure paramedic is present to ensure medical assistance in an unlikely emergency. The same goes for vehicle issues if needed a specially trained technician is on site.
For all Beyond Adventures the team always includes a local guide to explain about the area and inform about local habits and traditions, simply to widen your horizon – as Hans Christian Andersen said: “to travel is to live.” Behind the scenes, a team of travel experts is on alert from start to finish following your progress via GPS tracking for your safety and comfort – always ready to support.
The experience starts already when signing in, from that moment you can always rely on our support. Our adventure starts at the arrival airport. From here all is taken care of all the way to the departure airport. Get ready to explore the world you never knew existed…
The extraordinary world!
Let the adventure begin,
Jan Kalmar, founder
The Program
DAY 1
Ideally you will arrive by afternoon at Hosea Kutako International Airport, just outside Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek. Here you will be welcomed by our team and shuttled to our lodge close by. At the lodge, you will have time to relax and adapt to the time and speed of Africa. Enjoy your first African sunset of this adventure, followed by a welcome dinner in true Namibian fashion. Get ready – the driving adventure is about to start!
If you prefer to arrive earlier to adjust to the African time zone, please let us know well in advance so we may secure the bookings.
DAY 2
An early start to the day will be a natural part of being in Africa, so get used to it… After breakfast we start with our briefing, and it is all about getting to know the team, the route in more detail and of course to introduce you to your car for this adventure as they have many special features. In addition, we will show you some handy but easy ‘self-help’ solutions.
We get into the cars and navigate our way out of Namibia’s central highlands, down the plateau and into the oldest desert in the world while getting used to the cars. Our goal is Sossusvlei, an area characterised by having some of the tallest sand dunes in the world, some towering over 300 metres. Sossusvlei is in the middle of what is known as the Namib Sand Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Our desert lodge for the night is one of few within the Namib Naukluft Park borders. Take in your surroundings and enjoy the tranquillity that the Namib Desert offers.
The lodge provides the perfect place to rest and, if you wish, sleep directly under the vast sky and its many stars – a very fitting view to match your isolated location.
LITTLE KULALA, 440 km
DAY 3
For the early risers who are interested in breathtaking views from above, an optional hot air balloon ride is one way to admire one of the most beautiful African sunrises. Dunes as far as the eye can see, and rated as one of the best balloon rides in Africa, this is a near must, completed by a champagne breakfast.
After your return enjoy some of the activities that the lodge offers; enjoy a massage or simply relax by the pool or on your private veranda.
In the early afternoon we enter the Sossusvlei National Park and catch some truly incredible glimpses of wildlife in their natural habitat. Get in your cars and we will face some short but challenging sandy tracks. Once arrived we will continue on foot to the famous ‘valley of dead trees’, Deadvlei. Take in the surroundings and enjoy the tranquillity of the Namib Desert.
On the way back, a special sundowner on the nature reserve is waiting, and dinner will be a local braai (barbeque) before we set off in our cars again tomorrow.
DAY 4
Today our journey continues around the Namib Sand Sea, through two canyon passes and vast open plains and a unique mix of tarmac, gravel and salt roads until we reach the Atlantic Ocean and the harbour town of Walvis Bay.
The Atlantic, being rich in plankton, draws large numbers of aquatic life including seals, dolphins and whales to name just a few. The rich Atlantic also supports Walvis Bay’s lagoon, a protected RAMSAR site and bird sanctuary which boasts over 88 different species and up to 250,000 birds at any given time. A sure, welcome sight are all the flamingos along the shoreline.
Our destination for the night is virtually isolated, very hard to reach by car, and uniquely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. Expect to hear the call of jackals while they wander the area, listen to the sounds of over 100,000 seals interacting with each other and enjoy the fresh sea breeze. It is sure to be an evening to remember – enhanced by the wonderful sea-aroma!
PELICAN POINT LODGE, 350 km
DAY 5
Today we have an easy start and we will drive some smooth tarmac and salt roads passing by Swakopmund before the next stages of adventure begins. Our journey takes us north along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast. This hostile but truly fascinating area has long been a graveyard for unwary ships and their crews.
Then it is time to leave the coast again and get into the ruggedness of Namibia with all its rock formations. Next stop is Damaraland Camp in the Huab River Valley, famed as Namibia’s most pristine wilderness area with awe-inspiring landscapes to show you the true meaning of the word ‘remote’.
An award-winning, eco-friendly lodge, Damaraland Camp offers breathtaking views alongside its memorable semitented accommodation.
DAMARALAND CAMP, 410 km
DAY 6
You may have completed many unique driving experiences in your life, but when was the last time you followed a dried-out river-bed in a Porsche for 120 km? Yes, and this with a golden opportunity to see the desert-adapted elephants, rhinos and many other species. Most of the route is on sand, and with the lions close by, this will be done in convoy with no time target so the team assist you if any issues occur. When the river ends you will hit the best gravel road you can imagine after this tough driving day. First we head for a fuel stop before a near-straight 200 km tarmac road awaits…
When arrived you can relax in one of the best lodges on this journey. Get ready as tomorrow it is time for world-class game viewing…
ANDERSSONS AT ONGAVA, 425 km
DAY 7
We will be up before first light to experience the game in the picturesque Etosha National Park. Along with our rangers, you will explore the fauna and flora the park has to offer. Etosha’s main characteristic is a salt pan so large it can be seen from space, but the true attraction is, of course, its elite wildlife with over 100 species of animals calling it home.
The afternoon can be used to seek out more wildlife, or a welcome visit to the spa for your soul… it is up to you but regardless of your choices, after a day full of wonder, it is time to relax and reflect back at the lodge where you can make your way to an underground viewing point to get eye-to-eye with the animals!
NILE SAFARI LODGE, 339 km
DAY 8
Today you have yet another hard choice: rise early with the animals and explore the numerous waterholes or enjoy a slow morning at the lodge. By now you are adapted to Africa so the game-drive will be done all by yourself, but with our team always close by.
The destination for today is still in the proximity of Etosha National Park which allows another full day safari through the Etosha National Park with its amazing wildlife of elephants, giraffes, rhinos, lions, springbok and zebras to name just a few. Relax in the evening overlooking the vast savanna, with a waterhole close by attracting animals from far away.
ONGUMA THE FORT, 190 km
DAY 9
After two days of wildlife viewing it is time to head back south towards Windhoek but not before stopping for a lunch break at Okonjima and the AfriCat Foundation – a project which aims to rescue, relocate and rehabilitate some of the world’s most beautiful and admired big cats, the cheetah and leopard. Learn all about these majestic animals and be in with a chance of coming nose to nose with these feline beauties.
Afterwards continue straight back to Omaanda lodge where we started our awe inspiring driving adventure nine days ago. It is time to end the day with an incredible farewell-dinner under the stars and to say “see you next time” to all the like-minded adventurers with whom you shared this unique experience.
Tomorrow a transfer to the airport is arranged, unless you take an extra day or two to relax before returning home with a camera roll of Beyond Adventure stories to tell. Should you wish to extend your stay please let us know well in advance that we may secure the necessary bookings for you.

The cars – Choose your own adventure
It’s your choice! So, what are you most comfortable with? Choose from our proven Beyond Adventure fleet of safari rally inspired Porsches that will suit you best. Let us know which you prefer, or partner with another team and swap cars when you like.
Sports cars
The sports cars (911 and Cayman) have a rear roll-cage, sports seats, raised suspension with rally-specification shock absorbers, tall gravel tires and full under-body protection. There’s a special spare tyre holder and of course, the cooling box behind the seats (not the Cayman).
Porsche KALMAR RS
A light, tough hardcore gravel car that’s at home in the harshest conditions – just remember it’s not the most comfortable car. It’s a true work horse. Air-conditioning is working when we set off. Five or six speed manual transmission. Just 1300kg and 260-290bhp, it’s something else!
Porsche KALMAR RS-6
A more comfortable version of the KALMAR RS and with a water-cooled engine. Good on the long straight roads for sure. Significantly more complex than the RS but has more to offer when treated gently. Six-speed manual transmission, 1425kg ready to go and 300bhp.
Porsche KALMAR RS-C
The new kid on the block – Two luggage compartments but no fridge! It’s the most comfortable and most modern sportscar in the fleet with the PDK gearbox. Fast and agile but worth noting it’s not as tough as some of the others. 1400kg and 326bhp.
Cayennes
The Cayennes with raised suspension and larger, more suitable off-road tires. They also have full under-body protection, roof rack, fridge, and recovery gear to make even the most difficult stages possible. We will use modern tablet navigation so you will never be lost, and we have our satellite-based safety system with all the necessary functions you’ll need.
Porsche Cayenne KALMAR CS
The most comfortable car from the range. You might turn less heads but it feels like a magic carpet ride. Don’t forget these have working air-conditioning all the time.
Porsche Cayenne KALMAR CS-R
The most off-road capable car from the fleet, huge weight reduction from fitting sport seats and the removal of most comfort gear means this car is not the ordinary SUV. Low range and differential locks mean you can go almost anywhere with this car.
Can’t decide? We can help pick the right car that will suit you best.
Bring Your own Safari Porsche
As the off-road Porsche sportscar scene has increased significantly especially with the arrival of almost 2500 units of the Porsche 911 Dakar. Additionally, there’s a lots of small series producers offering off-road-prepared Porsches of all kind. Maybe you already have your own specially prepared off-road Porsche sportscar.
Just like the huge interest in upgrading the great Porsche Cayenne means there are plenty of equal-minded enthusiasts out there and all are more than welcome! We simply hope to gather a bigger group of Porsches going on this adventure. We will need to get a detailed description of the car and will most likely inspect the car personally. Because we know what is needed from a Porsche to make it to the finish line.
We will service and maintain it like it was “our own” but there will be some spare challenges possibly. If you want us to build a car for you, then this is also no problem, just let us know. The cost of running our fleet cars will be deducted from your entry fee, but the cost for the service team and fuel will still be carried by you. All spares needed on the trip will be invoiced separately at the cost price. Please contact us for more detailed information! We have been doing these trips for 15 years now and are happy to see more and more using these cars away from the boring tarmac roads.
