The Cayman is a Porsche mid-engine sports coupe from the Zuffenhausen sports car manufacturer. The Cayman S premiered at the 2005 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. The sporty two-seater was launched in Germany in November 2005. The technology is based on the Porsche Boxter. The Cayman engine was upgraded with parts from the 911 unit. The cylinder head and the "VarioCamPlus" camshaft control were adopted. The engine engineers developed the crankshaft and pistons from scratch. All chassis components (springs, dampers, stabilizers) were designed to be sportier than those of a Boxter. But the closed body also only slightly affects the handling on different road surfaces compared to the open sister model. In July 2006, the entry-level Cayman model with the 2.7-liter engine with 180 KW (245 HP) completed the model range. A distinguishing feature of the Cayman S are the brake calipers, which are painted red at the factory. Valmet Automotive in Uusikaupunki, Finland, and Karmann in Osnabrück produced the Cayman sports cars on behalf of Porsche.
