🏁 The Porsche Boxster (model code 986)
The 986 Boxster played a crucial role for Porsche at a time when models like the 968 and 928 were discontinued. The only remaining volume model was the 911 (993). The launch of the 986 was strategic – it was about winning hearts again, expanding the customer base, and reviving a struggling brand. We often forget that in the mid-1990s, Porsche was not yet the powerhouse it is today.

In 1996, before the debut of the new 911 (996), Porsche introduced its new “baby” – the Boxster. Enthusiasts expected an air-cooled flat-6, but instead, the Boxster marked the beginning of water cooling – a crime for die-hard Porsche fans!
Yet… it worked so well!

What we got was a highly effective and affordable vehicle. Between 1996 and 2004, nearly 100,000 units were sold – figures Porsche had never seen before! A huge success.

Today, the 986 is fully recognized as a Porsche, and believe me, in some situations, it’s more fun than a 911. After all, in the Boxster, the engine is in the right place!

An excellent youngtimer, perfect for a weekend getaway thanks to its two luggage compartments, or just for grabbing fresh bread on a Sunday morning.
