The vehicle in detail

The Porsche 911 996 GT2 we’re delighted to be offering rolled off the Zuffenhausen production line in February of 2002, finished in stealthy Basalt Black Metallic. The car was specified with the optional Clubsport package. Pitched at owners with a penchant for track driving, said package comprised a roll cage, flame-retardant Recaro bucket seats with four-point Schroth Racing harnesses, a fire extinguisher mounted in the passenger footwell and an electrical cut-off switch. Other boxes ticked on the optional-extras form were the red regular seatbelts, top-tined window and radio/CD-player.

On 1 March 2002, this Porsche became one of a mere 17 right-hand-drive GT2 Clubsports delivered to the United Kingdom – in this case via the official dealer Riverdale Porsche in Brighton. As the multitude of accompanying invoices and MOT certificates attest, this Porsche has been fastidiously maintained – predominantly by official Porsche centres – throughout its entire life. Most recently, in the autumn of 2023, a major service was carried out by the renowned specialist JZM Porsche in Langley, during which the brake fluid was changed, the airbag system was checked and four new Michelin tyres were fitted. The odometer currently reads 35,830 miles and the car retains its original owner’s manuals, spare key and Certificate of Authenticity.

Upon arriving with us here at Belchers Farm in March of 2024, we had this GT2 Clubsport professionally detailed, including full paint correction. An exceptionally rare and ultra-special ‘halo’ Porsche that serves up dizzying performance, even by today’s standards, this 911 996 GT2 is in overall excellent condition and ready to crown or bolster any serious Porsche collection.

The 996-generation Porsche 911 GT2

In the realm of modern-era Porsches, few models boast a reputation which precedes them quite as much as the 996-generation 911 GT2. The lovechild of the quick and comfortable Turbo and the more hardcore track-oriented GT3, the premise behind the GT2 was simple.

In losing the heavy front differentials of the four-wheel-drive Turbo and encompassing lightweight bits and pieces such as the carbon-ceramic brakes (a standard feature!), the GT2 shed some 100kg. And it was more powerful, too – 42HP more powerful, to be precise, as though the 3.6-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six needed any more power. To top the GT2 off, the wizards in Weissach removed the traction control and the stability control. Because there was no interference necessary with Porsche’s flagship supercar.

The final result was nothing short of mind-blowing – a razor-sharp and über-fast supercar that rewarded skilled drivers with depths of performance few of its rivals could plunge. So revered was the GT2’s performance that all but the most hardcore of Porsche pilgrims took up the chance to buy one. As a result, the GT2 remains a comparatively rare proposition compared to its Turbo- and GT3-badged 911 counterparts.
