Put on the road in the State of Montana in the United States on 27 June 2002, our example has a mileage total of 167,617 km that can be relied on thanks to the history file. It is now registered in France and is currently at our premises in Valence. The vehicle has a solid history at the dealership, with invoices showing that it has been scrupulously maintained in the USA and France, with a service book stamped in full within the Porsche network.
ENGINE AND GEARBOX
Featuring the first water-cooled flat 6 on a 911, which earned it the wrath of Porsche fans when it first came out, the engine develops 300bhp. There are no engine leaks, and once under way, the flat-six emits no suspicious vibrations and delivers thrust without any power loss. The gearbox is easy to handle and well spaced, and the 4-wheel drive system distributes power perfectly. A service was carried out in December 2022 including a change of filters and fluids at the Montélimar Porsche dealership. The history shows a serious follow-up, with a major service carried out in December 2018, again at Porsche Montélimar including a large number of mechanical operations enabling it to present itself in excellent working order, ready to cover any distance.
EXTERIOR
On the outside, too, the 996 represents a major evolution for the German sports car, which is equipped for the first time with non-round headlamps. Shunned for many years, the 996 has aged well in spite of this, and now has a wide following. The original Arctic Grey paintwork (code L92U) dresses the vehicle’s body with elegance and sobriety, and was refurbished in 2021. It boasts perfect, flawless condition and a perfect shine. The soft top is also in excellent condition, with a good seal and no white marks. Paint thickness measurements reveal low and consistent figures.
INTERIOR
The cabin of the 996 was considerably modernized with the arrival of electronics, including the Porsche interface, which was quite functional for its time. Our example is dressed entirely in black leather and the dashboard is flawless thanks to the quality of its manufacture and assembly, while the instrumentation retains its usual layout of five dials with the rev counter in the middle. The seats offer good support and are perfectly well preserved, showing no defects in appearance. The black carpets and rugs are on a par with the rest of the cabin, as are the plastics, which are spared from the sun.
CONSUMABLES
The 2021 Pirelli P Zero tyres (225/40R18 91 Z front and 265/35 R18 92Y rear) are in very good condition. The brakes have been recently serviced and are up to date with a brake system bleed in December 2022 and the brake pads/discs are also up to date.
