The Carrera 4S got its body from the Porsche Turbo. However, he did not receive the turbocharger. The wider rear fenders and the lower construction compared to the Carrera series made it a coveted car for Porsche fans. The windshield was slightly sloped and the rear, which sloped towards the end of the car, formed a curved line together with the engine cover. There was a rear spoiler that was automatically extended from 80 km/h or via a button in front of the gear lever.
The interior featured better sports seats that provided better shoulder support to keep the occupants in their seats during hard cornering. There were two seats in the back, which basically only served to accommodate some bags, but not people, as they were very small and leg and headroom was limited. The instrument cluster had five dials, with the tachometer in the center and the Carrera 4S logo on it. The air conditioning and stereo were mounted in line with the steering column.
The engine was the same naturally aspirated 3.6 liter but was offered in the higher power rating of 285 hp. The only transmission available was a 6-speed manual.
The 4S is also better equipped than a standard 993, as it comes standard with full leather (Porsche's full leather covers the dashboard too).
Mechanically, no improvements have been made. The engine remains the 3.6 Varioram, which produces 285 hp in the 4S (except in the optional X51 version). The 272 hp were never offered for the 4S.
The 4S is about 30 kilos heavier than a normal 993 and therefore has slightly less power and is a bit more sluggish. However, the difference is minimal unless you push the car to the limit.
The Porsche 993 was known for its understeer. And this was also noticeable at lower speeds and on loose surfaces. Thanks to a new all-wheel drive system, the Carrera 4S could handle it better and perform better on a rainy race track than its Carrera S sibling.
