1996 Porsche 993 Targa in Polar Silver for sale!
Porsche introduced the Targa option on the 993 in 1996 to give the 911 buyer the option of open air motoring but still having a coupe body style. Porsche called this all glass roof the “greenhouse system”. The all new targa design featured a retractable glass roof panel that performed like a giant sunroof sliding down and in front of the rear window. The side windows were larger as well giving the driver and passengers a airy and light filled view of the environment outside. This roof design was very revolutionary and there really wasn’t any other sports car with such a feature of the time period. The 993 was the last of the air cooled 911s and today are much sought after by collectors. Porsche first introduced the Tiptronic shiftable automatic transmission on the 964 range and it was carried over and gaining in popularity on the 993 models. The Tiptronic allowed the 911 to appeal to another market segment and the cars were better equipped for touring and every day driving. 2442 Targa models were sold in 1996 but today these models are among the rarest body style in comparison to traditional Coupes and Cabriolets.
