When the drive and the driving experience take center stage, there are few things that deliver and perform better than Porsche’s GT3. Especially not with the infamous “Touring” package. The recipe is actually pretty obvious and takes its basic ethos from 2016 and the 911R. The R was an interesting model for Porsche, which in previous years had been criticized for not delivering a manual transmission to the 991 iteration of the GT3. All said and done, Porsche presented the 911R, seemingly a GT3 without a wing and with a manual gearbox. The car was a success, but in more ways than one…

The vehicle in detail

It turned out that the demand for a GT car without a wing was great. A car that outwardly represented a more sober Porsche but which under the hood offered everything that a “regular” GT3 had. When it was time for the 991.2 to get a GT3, we got to see the new name for the first time. Touring. Optional package 032. And then came the 992 GT3…

This example, in classic GT Silver, is to the untrained eye just another Porsche and it is precisely this that is the Touring’s selling point. But those who know know… the wide body is glued over the iconic center locking rims. The nosecone differs both from a regular Carrera but also from a GT3 with its lacquered insert which further tones down and gives a more tasteful exterior. The windows are framed by a silver strip that nicely ties the bag together. The stern is dominated by the GT-specific centrally mounted exhaust which offers something that makes the GT3 unique in the 992 context. The song from the 4 liter naturally aspirated engine. It feels almost bizarre to feel the rapiness and response of the engine when you are behind the wheel of something that normally has a turbocharged engine.

Open the door and the first thing you notice are the seat inserts. The classic houndstooth pattern, of course, with its roots in older models from the brand, but also something that was a common addition to the 911R. Otherwise, you recognize this GT3. In front of the driver, the view is dominated by the tachometer that goes all the way to 10,000RPM and redmarks at 9. We must emphasize this fact… 9,000RPM. As usual, the center console houses infotainment as well as a series of function buttons such as Noselift and chassis adapting functions.

It is not the interior or the sober exterior that is the focal point here. It is a 4 liter boxer six in combination with a telepathic front suspension and a carefully balanced GT chassis. The combination of all this and Porsche know-how over 75 years culminates here in perhaps the best vehicle you can travel in on both road and track.
