In fall 2017, Porsche introduced the Touring Package for the track-oriented 911 GT3 model, an option that eliminated the GT3’s large and fixed rear wing and replaced it with the motorized rear spoiler from the 911 Carrera GTS, lending the car a more understated appearance. The 991 GT3 Touring retained the GT3’s sensational motor sports-derived flat-six and was only available with a six-speed manual transaxle for the purest and most analog driving experience.
The 992 generation of 911 brought with it a completely new version of the GT3, and thus a new GT3 Touring, as shown in the stunning example offered here. While many of the mechanical components evolved from the previous model, the structure and trim of this new generation are all new, providing another level of performance and functionality. Available only in two-seat configuration, the GT3’s naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six now produces 502 hp and offers factory-claimed 0–60 mph times of 3.7 seconds for the manual gearbox and 3.2 seconds for the PDK automatic.
Porsche’s specification sheet shows that the 992 Touring is basically the same car as the standard GT3, with only cosmetic differences, including the requisite lack of a fixed rear wing. Both the manual and automatic versions share the same price as well, allowing those lucky enough to be in the market for one of these incredibly special machines to have the choice of a more subdued or outlandish appearance without a financial penalty to spoil the fun.
One could argue that the GT3 Touring presented here was specified in a nearly perfect configuration – combining the six-speed manual transaxle and many of the most popular options with the beautiful, paint-to-sample color of Gulf Blue and Satin Neodyme-finished wheels. This incredible 992 leaves little to be desired, and its $58,370 options list includes a carbon fiber roof and mirrors, carbon ceramic brakes, deviated stitching, Chrono package, power adaptive sport seats, and front-axle lift system, among others. All-in, its $222,520 MSRP represents a very tastefully selected, high-level specification.
This GT3 appears near new, which is to be expected, considering the scant 40 miles shown on its odometer at the time of cataloguing. It is offered with its window sticker and a set of unopened carpet floor mats, should you want to swap them with the rubber ones currently installed. As with many of Porsche’s offerings, waiting lists abound for the 992 GT3. If one is lucky enough to find a dealer with an open allocation, pricing can be steep and the wait for a car, lengthy. The secondary marketplace for this highly collectible and imminently enjoyable Porsche offers the opportunity for instant gratification; look no further than this stunning example for a fix of GT3 greatness.
