General description of Make and/or Model of this Motorcar:
The original 1954 Porsche Speedster is a model we know well, having a sold a number of examples and justifiably they have reached a very high value – in no small part due to the car’s singularity of purpose and scarcity.
Porsche since then produced 4 other models with the car’s soubriquet but one feels some of the models have been more of a marketing endeavour than an authentic attempt to accurately pay homage to the prognitor.
Thankfully to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Porsche and as a swansong to the final and much loved 991 platform – in 2018 Porsche finally produced a model which was a true Speedster by name and nature.
Using a 991 chassis with bespoke sensitively tuned dampers, the full fat 4.0 GT3 engine with higher injector pressures and new throttle bodies resulting in a new high of 503 BHP from the 4 litre, harnessed to a 6 speed manual gearbox driving the rear wheels – the latest Speedster presented open top motoring at it’s purest. The beauty of the body is no part due to the pairing of the iconic GT3 front end, Carrera 4s rear, GT3 touring rear apron, “double bubble” single piece carbon fibre rear deck – finished off with the (very expensive to engineer) iconic lower raked windscreen. The result is a masterpiece and undoubtedly one of the prettiest 911’s made.
Combine the looks and visceral performance and the result is an immediate 911 classic and a model which is indisputably worthy of the Speedster legend.
