To commemorate its 70th anniversary in 2018, Porsche unveiled the latest version of its iconic 911 Speedster. Only 1,948 were built, celebrating the year Dr. Ferdinand Porsche built his first two-seat roadster. This special model is not only the finale of a long line of illustrious 991-generation designs, but also the most recent installment in the marque’s hallowed limited-production Speedster series.
Essentially a 911 GT3 with its roof cut off, the 992-generation 911 Speedster features extensive use of carbon fiber for the front trunk lid, front fenders, doors, engine cover, and interior trim. It also retains the iconic raked-and-shortened windshield which is the true calling card of the Speedster. Power is derived from a 4.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine rated at 502 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual transmission with rev-matching capability is standard, as are the formidable carbon-ceramic disc brakes with their enormous yellow calipers.
Offered today from an esteemed collection of special late-model Porsches, this 911 Speedster wears an outstanding and entirely unique specification highlighted by more than $67,000 of optional equipment and custom tailoring from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. Not a single surface, finish, or detail has escaped close consideration by the consignor in pursuit of the ideally configured Speedster. Taken together, this car’s manufacturer suggested retail price as-delivered to Porsche South Bay of Hawthorne, California was an astounding $345,160; an incredible 26% premium over the base price of this very limited production model.
This Speedster’s exterior is finished in paint-to-sample Slate Grey with Gold Satin graphics over a custom-tailored interior trimmed in extended black leather with bespoke silver deviated stitching throughout. A closer inspection reveals the true extravagance of this build from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur: The center console trim is clad to match the paint-to-sample exterior, while the silver seatbelts and door pulls unify the detail of the deviated stitching with integral, functional pieces of the interior. Even the steering column, door sills, and air vents have been dressed with black leather and silver stitching.
The attractive suite of houndstooth fabric inserts is a custom set commissioned from an aftermarket Porsche specialist for $12,000; the original black leather inserts accompany the sale. Other desirable pieces of optional factory equipment include the front-axle lift system, Chrono Package, Bose surround sound system, Light Design Package, PDLS headlamps, extended-range fuel tank, exposed carbon-fiber mirrors, and wheels finished in Satin Aluminum.
This custom-tailored 911 Speedster remains as new, indicating just 299 miles at the time of cataloguing. It would be a spectacular acquisition for any Porsche collector looking for a pristine, over-the-top example from the marque’s Exclusive Manufaktur department—to say nothing of this model’s undeniable, purebred performance, iconic pedigree, and extremely limited production.
