The vehicle in detail

When Porsche unveiled the 991 GT3 in 2013, it was a massive shift for the brand’s famed model. With an all-new motor, Porsche moved away from their tried and true motorsports-based Mezger engine, which had been seen in all the previous GT3s, replacing it with a 3.8-liter unit featuring direct injection and able to spin to 9,000 RPM. Rear-wheel steering helped the larger car handle even more sharply than the previous 997 generation while helping with high-speed stability on both the road and track. For the first time in a GT3, a dual-clutch gearbox was available for the car and was the only transmission on offer. Although this was met with mixed reception from driving enthusiasts, for a car focused on track driving and achieving the best lap times, it was the obvious choice and made the GT3 a much more usable car around town.

This 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 finished production on October 14th, 2014, and was sold new at Porsche of Monterey in Seaside, CA. Finished in GT Silver Metallic, with a deviating silver over the top stripe, this GT3 has been under the care of 4 owners. The car shows 29,127 miles and has a history of servicing at main dealers around the greater San Francisco Bay Area. The beautiful BBS forged FI-R wheels fitted to this car drop nearly 4 lbs at each corner while also giving the car a great motorsport-oriented look. One of the things that sets the GT3 apart visually from other 911s is the functional aerodynamics package, which includes the large fixed rear wing and low front splitter- both of which help keep the car planted at speed. The front axle lift system was installed on this car to avoid scraping up that low nose, making getting around parking garages and speed bumps a far less nerve-wracking experience.

The interior is wrapped in black leather and platinum and silver stitching are used around the inside and features numerous updates over the standard car. Pieces of the original interior that would have been finished in aluminium are now wrapped in satin carbon fiber, and in the center console, the PDK selector has been replaced by a more modern unit out of the 992 generation car. A series of shift lights on the steering column are very helpful on track, and behind the seats, a half cage is installed. The center of the seats, steering wheel, PDK selector, and lower dash are all wrapped in Race-Tex Alcantara, which provides great grip while on track and also looks nice. An aftermarket set of Numeric aluminum pedals have been fitted which give more grip on your shoes and mean you barely have to move your foot when switching between gas and brake. Racing Yellow seatbelts were optioned as white instrument dials offering a nice contrast against the black elsewhere.

Powering the 991 GT3 is Porsche’s all-new 3.8 liter flat-6, which produces 469 horsepower and lets the car sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. This is paired with a 7-speed PDK Gearbox, which offers lightning-fast and precise shifting, making it the perfect vehicle for use on track, but is also enjoyable to use on the street. Carbon Ceramic Disc Brakes are fitted to this car for nearly $10,000 from the factory, which offer fade-free stopping and are lighter weight than the standard steel brakes, making for much better on-track performance. When new, the 991.1 GT3 set a remarkable lap time around the Nurburgring of 7:32, which puts it ahead of supercars cars like the Ferrari 458 Italia and Porsche Carrera GT.

The 991.1 GT3 represents great value in the world of Porsche these days – a screaming 9,000 rpm engine and quick-shifting PDK transmission in a car that is comfortable enough to use on a daily basis. If you are looking for a supremely capable 911 to take to the track and enjoy for years to come, it’s hard to imagine you would find a better setup example than this GT3.
