Unveiled in 2017, the 991 GT2 RS is the ultimate achievement of the Porsche 991, positioning itself as the most extreme and powerful of the 911s approved for the road. Its turbocharged engine combined with the propulsion make it a particularly demanding and rewarding car to drive. This car is a real concentrate of innovations, highlighted among other things by its active spoiler optimizing support at high speed, the rear-wheel steering, the PCCB ceramic brakes… It has an ultra-light chassis thanks to the use of materials such as carbon and magnesium, allowing its weight to be reduced to 1,470 kg when empty.
Visually, the GT2 RS is distinguished by its front end that is extremely open on huge radiators and a rear bumper that has been largely reworked to maximize the supply of fresh air and the extraction of hot air. The turbos are larger and a new cooling system sprays water on the intercoolers when the temperature reaches a high level in order to maintain an optimal temperature for the compressed air admitted. The interior is not left out with carbon bucket seats, an Alcantara steering wheel and modern multimedia equipment, despite its purely sporty orientation.
The GT2 RS’s 3.8L twin-turbo flat 6 is mated to the PDK dual-clutch gearbox, allowing for lightning-fast gear changes, and this car impresses with its dizzying performance. Porsche has stuck to its basic recipe, with two variable geometry turbochargers, but the leap compared to the top 911s is enormous: +50 Nm and +80 hp compared to the 997 GT2 RS, +120 hp compared to the contemporary 991 Turbo S: thanks to its 700 hp and 750 Nm of torque, it goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds and can reach a top speed of over 211 mph. Its power-to-weight ratio of 2.1 kg/hp is equivalent to that of the Porsche 918 Spyder! On the Nürburgring circuit, it set a time of 6 minutes and 47 seconds, a record for a production car at the time.
