Although extremely suitable for daily use, we can call the Agate Grey (also called Achatgrau or Agate Grey) metallic Porsche 991 Carrera 4 anything but inconspicuous. Indeed, the sports coupe sits on uber-fraudulent 20-inch Carrera S wheels fitted with a matte-gray paint job and has a classically written out brand lettering at the rear. Another typical Porsche feature is the continuous red band between the two taillights. Furthermore, the sports exhaust counts 4 end pieces, so that every onlooker understands where that spectacular sound comes from… The 991 is a more than successful evolution of predecessor 997. The more modern of the two clearly has more body with its lower roofline and wider wheel arches. The dynamics almost literally drip off, while the nostalgic 911 feelings are undiminished thanks to iconic features such as the round headlights (in this case bi-xenon with separate LED light units underneath) and the unmistakable Elfer silhouette. Are you feeling it, too?
Equipment
Behind the tinted glass hides a mainly black leather interior. We deliberately write “mainly,” because the headliner is finished in alcantara. You sit on heated and electrically adjustable Sport Plus seats that keep you perfectly in line during hard acceleration and volatile cornering. The steering wheel, also covered in black leather, contains 3 double spokes made of aluminum. The matching shift paddles are literally at your fingertips for lightning-fast operation of the equally responsive PDK automatic transmission. Meanwhile, keep an eye on the Sport Chrono clock on the dashboard with a slanted eye? The timepiece encourages you to go just a little bit harder every lap. What certainly contributes to this is Porsche Active Suspension Management – better known as PASM, and Porsche Active Drivetrain Mount – PADM for short. Of a completely different caliber is PCM: Porsche Communication Management. Navigation, voice control and a telephone module are included here. At the push of a button you open the flaps of the original sports exhaust for maximum listening pleasure. Prefer quiet touring? Then swap the rousing exhaust sound for the sounds of Bose audio and engage Cruise Control. Things like the speed-dependent Power Steering Plus, automatic dimming interior and exterior mirrors, and the driving assistance system including front + rear parking aid make life aboard the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe quite comfortable. And that for a sports car pur sang!
Technology
Taking all preparations for an extra-fast lap time into account, we wouldn’t be surprised if the sprint time from 0 to 100 km/h feels even more spectacular than the stated 4.7 seconds. The promised top speed of 283 km/h is also going to come in handy when pushing your own limits. Indeed, the grip level of the 350-hp Elfer itself seems to have no end in sight: especially for the Carrera 4, Porsche uses all-wheel drive. This not only makes it more convincing in changing weather conditions, but also ensures that the 991.1 does not leave you out in the cold when things get more extreme outside. Still handy in a changing climate… How well prepared do you come to our showroom?
