When Porsche introduced the GT3 during the 996 generation, it quickly became one of the brand’s most coveted vehicles, appealing to driving enthusiasts seeking the ultimate experience behind the wheel. Engineered with a focus on track performance and unfiltered driving pleasure, the GT3 distinguished itself as a stripped-down iteration of the standard 911 yet boasted a flat-6 powerplant derived from Porsche’s Motorsport department. The arrival of the 991 generation GT3 generated equal anticipation, continuing the legacy of its predecessors. Featuring an extraordinary flat-6 engine revving to an otherworldly 9,000 rpm, coupled with striking aesthetics and a chassis engineered to outclass its competitors. For the first 3 years, Porsche exclusively offered a 7-speed PDK transmission on the car, which was great for people looking to squeeze every last second out of their lap times but was met with resistance from many driving enthusiasts. Porsche listened to these complaints and, for the second generation, began offering the GT3 with your choice of a 7-speed PDK or an exceptional 6-speed manual gearbox.
This 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 is a stunning example, finished in the classic Porsche color of Carmine Red- which dates back to the Carrera 3.2 of the mid-1980s. Showing 15,825 miles at the time of cataloging, this GT3 has been enjoyed but is well-kept and remains in very good condition throughout. The 20” GT3 wheels are painted in Satin Platinum, which offers a great contrast against the bright red paint, and the side sills, normally finished in satin black, were color-matched from the factory. It should be noted that there is a minor front-end accident on the CarFax of this GT3 from September 2022. From the information we could gather, the car was damaged in the lot of the selling dealership while for sale, and although no structural damage was reported, necessitated the replacement of the front bumper and bonnet and some repairs to the front fenders.
On the interior, the original owner fitted this GT3 with the exceptionally comfortable 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats that are wrapped in Leather with Alcantara centers and have also been optioned with seat heating. Throughout the cabin, red stitching is prevalent, including on the seats, dash, door cards, and shift boot, and a red marker graces the 12 o’clock spot on the Alcantara steering wheel. For another little splash of color, red air vents for the HVAC have been optioned, and the gauges were all fitted with white faces. To add to the comfort options on this example, a Bose surround sound system has been fitted that offers fantastic sound quality and is controlled by the large central LCD screen.
Powering the GT3 is Porsche’s legendary 4.0-liter Flat-6, which produces 493 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque while revving all the way to 9,000 rpm. What makes this engine so unique is that not only will it spin at 9,000 rpm all day, but it is also wonderfully torquey and responsive in the lower revs, making it just as happy running around town as it is out on the track. This example is paired with Porsche’s sublime 6-speed manual transmission, which offers some of the best shift feel available at any price and is a joy to use. A front axle lift system has been added to this car, making maneuvering in tight parking lots a far less stressful experience and a must-have on a car with a low nose such as this one.
Some road cars will go down forever in Porsche’s history books as the company’s best work- without a doubt, the 991.2 GT3 with a 6-speed manual will be on that list. Even with the new GT3 on sale today, many who have driven both still gravitate toward the 991.2 generation as a real best-of-both-worlds car that Porsche may never be bettered.
