1992 Porsche 968 CS LHD

F2 Maritime Blue – Chassis: Wp0zzz96zps815079

1 of only 1232 cars registered as a Porsche 968 CS

Located in UK near to container port of Felixstowe and ferry port of Harwich so easy export to USA or Europe

This car was built as part of a batch of very early 968 CS press and marketing cars for Porsche on the 15th October 1992 (see attached build sheet). It is the 4th Maritime Blue CS built by vin (although actually the 3rd) and the 2nd maritime blue car retained by the factory. Despite it’s very early build, it was mothballed by Porsche and stored until 4th June 1993 when it was invoiced to the Porsche (handelspartner 1001040) and assigned the factory registration of S-LR 6335 which can be seen on the original Fahrzeugbrief.

The vehicle in detail

The car was specified with the colour coded hardback Recaro bucket seats. These retain the original build stickers which match the build number of the car and are in excellent condition. Like a lot of the factory cars it was also on the standard CS chassis and did not have a sunroof. The car also show the factory reserved designation of “097 097” on the option sticker in the car (as opposed to a dealer code).

I believed it was possibly used as the marketing car for the 1994 model year brochure which was released in August 1993 and shot along the lakes in Ardales, Malaga, Spain.

The specification of standard CS chassis, radio preparation, no sunroof and bridgestone tyres (which can be clearly seen in the pictures) combined with being an early CS but road registered just before the brochure was shot narrows this down to very few cars. The brochure shot in around July 1993 as it also features a coupe running 993 cup2 wheels which was the 1994 model year 17” wheel.

An interesting discrepancy in this brochure is that Maritime Blue and Cup1 wheels were not available on the 1994 model year, so a reprint of the brochure in December 1994 has the wheels photoshopped to Cup2 and the colour tinted to look vaguely like Rivera Blue which was the replacement colour.

The service history book also shows a Herr Meyer of PQF1 against the factory owner stamp. There was a Joachim Meyer who more recently was Director of Chassis for Product Line 981 and 718 cars.

Service History

There are factory service stamps in Stuttgart to the same invoice account at:

4,096 km (1.10.93)
20,938 km (20.02.95)

The car was retained by the Porsche factory in Stuttgart until April 1996. An extended warranty was issued at 28,500 km by Porsche Zentrum Fulda when the car was sold on 04.04.96 as documented in the Fahrzeugbrief.

It then passed to a German cartoonist. He serviced it with Porsche Zentrum Kassel at:

40,052 km (12.08.96)
57,738 km (17.07.97)
77,600 km (29.04.98)

In 1999 the car was shipped to England and purchased by the CEO of a financial data company. In 2000 was temporarily exported to Montecito in California for a year (possibly the first 968 CS to be driven in the USA!).

The car was serviced by RGA Porsche in London throughout his ownership with stamps at:

100,059 km (11.11.99)
120,382 km (10.08.01)
127,023 km (13.09.02)
134,184 km (05.09.03)
150610 km (30.04.07)

Due to business commitments, the car was stored between 2007 and 2020 when it was then recommissioned by RGA Porsche in London. This is confirmed by the UK MOT history.
