PORSCHE 968 // Tiptronic // 107,800 km // exemplary history // amazon green metallic

247 km/h is the maximum speed listed on the vehicle registration document. For a manual transmission, it would be 250.

We have all known for over 30 years now that the automatic versions of all Porsche 964s (with this model the so-called Tiptronic was introduced), 968s, 993s, 996s and finally 997s of the first series, in addition to all the advantages of an automatic transmission, the dynamic performance of the models mentioned is somewhat more moderate than in the manual versions. So far, so good.

The vehicle in detail

Now, as I said, almost 35 years have passed since the introduction of this so-called Tiptronic, and the age of the vehicles has increased by exactly that time.

That forces us to think, because up until the late 2000s, this then new type of "sporty" automated transmission was quite often chosen by people who were almost certainly all in full possession of their mental faculties and acting quite consciously. They ordered one of the Porsches mentioned with Tiptronic because, for whatever reason, they preferred this expensive option. There are many reasons for this – whether the vehicle was to be available to the whole family, for example, or whether the driver didn't care about the last second of acceleration, or whatever the reason for the decision was – it existed.

Now not only have some of the Porsches mentioned gotten more than 3 decades older, but so have their drivers at the time.

What we're getting at is simple: Back then, there was this expensive option, which new car buyers deliberately chose. The gap in time with today allows us to ask the question in 2024 – if back then a relatively large number of people opted for the Tiptronic, when it still added a few thousand to the new car bill, we ask ourselves why it should be any different today? Especially since, from today's perspective, this option, which was expensive at the time, actually reduces the market price of an offer rather than increases it.

As a reminder – we never tire of mentioning this fact again and again: today, with current traffic conditions, with a vintage vehicle that has an H license plate, perhaps even a little more mature and worthy of an H registration… under all these conditions, we allow ourselves to question the point of categorically rejecting such an automatic transmission in a Porsche. We strongly suspect that the vast majority of Tiptronic opponents have never driven one themselves…but even if they had, we would hypothetically ask whether they have a manual equivalent in their garage instead? And if so – have they ever come across a boldly driven Golf GTI Cup or a Renault Alpine 110 or Megane RS on one or two trips?

If you seriously try to keep up with one of the example vehicles mentioned above (the list can be extended at will) in an air-cooled, manual Porsche off the shelf, you will know at the latest after the 2nd or 3rd bend, hairpin bend or other road bend what progress has been made over the last few decades. 2-litre engines with over 400 hp? AMG A-Class, please. Braking values beyond the physical limits of 100 km/h to a standstill in around 30 meters? There you go, almost all current Porsches (along with many other vehicles!) can do this down to a braking distance of 28 meters.

In our view, it's high time to make peace with the Tiptronic and enjoy the vast majority of advantages of this type of transmission. After all, we drive our older cars over 90% of the time in the partial load range when we drive them on the few roads that are still fun even today. Traffic management, traffic density, road safety education and finally an unfortunately growing ideology that turns away from cars as a hobby and source of fun are compelling arguments for calm, relaxed driving and gliding on public roads without grit in your teeth.

What is better for this than a gearshift that you can forget about and Chris Rea from the speakers??

Take some time to think about whether it might not be worth taking a look at a "gentle" sports car from the 90s when it is as fresh as the following Porsche 968.

Vehicle description:

This Porsche 968 was first delivered in Japan at the end of 1992 and was obviously treated and maintained with the utmost care by its owner.

Its complete maintenance and origin history makes it easy for us to attest to its excellent original condition today, which is completely rust-free and original right down to the smallest corners of its underbody, engine compartment and cavities. Unprepared, nothing embellished, just as it is.

The vehicle came to Germany in 2012 with just over 70,000 km on the clock and a few years ago it was taken over by a transaxle fan from our “neighborhood,” who kept it in top condition and didn’t subject the 968 to any stressful driving.

Today we are offering the Porsche 968 with a fully completed major service including timing belt, tension pulleys, water pump, etc. As part of this inspection, the vehicle will receive a current main and emissions test, new tires, and an H-registration.

It makes sense for us to only do this work after the new owner has agreed to buy it.

Until then, as always, you can rely on our word in advance – the 968 is worth every cent when we hand it over to you. (To avoid any misunderstandings – it is already first class! See photos. But once we have finished with it in the workshop, its new owner can

plan any trip, no matter how attractive, to anywhere without any worries.)

Fill up the tank, check the tire pressure, check the oil level and off you go.

With our best wishes

Your dls team
