From the Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cup, everything that caused unnecessary weight was first removed. The rear emergency seats and the passenger seat were removed and all the insulation material was dispensed with. In order to increase vehicle stability and safety, a roll cage and a strut bar were installed at the front. The 3.6 liter 6-cylinder engine with dual ignition known from the Porsche 964 Carrera produced 265 hp in the Cup version due to modified ignition electronics and a modified exhaust. The racing car also received a new chassis with shorter and harder springs and adjustable anti-roll bars. Negative camber has been increased to allow higher cornering speeds.
Despite this equipment being tailored for racing use, the vehicle is registered for German road use and can easily be used on public roads. Porsche AG's first one-make cup took place in 1990 with the legendary Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cup. The vehicle was produced in just 50 racing vehicles for the first season. A little later, this racing series would celebrate huge successes, not only in Germany. The Porsche Carrera Cup is now the best-known and most popular brand racing series in the world.
