This 964 RS America is particularly characterized by various refinements and modifications. Important original components – such as the seats, fog lights and the steering wheel – are still preserved. These are the main optimizations:
The Porsche 964 RS America, based on the Carrera 2, was produced exclusively for the US market in 1993. With a production run of just 701 units, it is one of the most sought-after limited models in the 964 series. The RS America was a lighter, purist version of the Carrera 2. Equipped as standard with a sports chassis, a shortened gear lever and a fixed rear wing panel, it also offered optional features such as air conditioning, a sunroof and an improved audio system. With 250 hp, the lack of power steering and a clear focus on direct feedback, the RS America embodies purist Porsche driving pleasure in its purest form.
Market situation 964 RS and 964 RS America
(as of December 2024) – The 964 RS was the sportiest and most puristic version of the 911 for the road at the time. In Europe, this model was a relatively big sales success, with a total of 2,394 units sold. Today, prices for an original 964 RS range between €170,000 and up to €400,000, depending on condition and equipment. Within this price range, the majority of vehicles are between €200,000 and €250,000. In total, around 40 to 50 vehicles are advertised on the German market on the major online platforms.
Since the 964 RS was intended for the EU market at the time, there should of course also be a model for the important US market. Just in time for the 20th anniversary of the legendary Carrera RS from 1973, the special model 964 RS America was created for the 1993 model year. This 911 shared some basic purist elements with the 964 RS, such as the absence of power steering. Overall, however, it was somewhat more extensively equipped, including an electric sunroof, more comfortable sports seats instead of the RS bucket seats and air conditioning. This model was also a success, with a total of 701 examples built in the very short production period. These vehicles have also developed into sought-after collector's models after more than 30 years. Currently, there are only fewer than 10 vehicles advertised on the market in Germany/Europe, with prices ranging between €140,000 and €180,000.
