History of the series
The 964 model series of the Porsche 911 was produced from 1989 to 1994 and was a significant development of the previous model, the 911 G model. Some of the 964's most notable features were the introduction of four-wheel drive (Carrera 4) and the availability of an automatic Tiptronic transmission.
In terms of design, the 964 retained many of the classic elements of the 911, but also received some modern updates. This included a slightly rounded body and a revised interior. Series models were the Carrera 2, Carrera 4, Speedster and the Turbo.
There were also the Carrera RS, Carrera RS 3.8 and the Turbo S as special series. The 964 was a great success for Porsche and laid the foundation for the following 911 model series. It is considered by many Porsche enthusiasts to be one of the best variants of the 911 as it offers the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
