A landmark in Porsche history, the 911 Carrera 4 represented one of the most significant steps forward for the Porsche company, this being the first change technically for the 911 since the model’s inception. Factory designated model “964”, marking it the first time four-wheel drive had been seen on a series-production model. Prior to this, Porsche had only experimented with four-wheel drive on the 959 supercar. The 911/964 Carrera 4 not only used 4 wheel drive, but also new chassis and suspension technology, power assisted steering, as well as ABS braking being used for the first time and finally, factory air conditioning that actually worked well for the first time in 911 model history. The exterior had the 911’s familiar shape but with a more modern facelift.
The power came from Porsche’s air cooled 3.6 liter flat six cylinder engine which produced 250bhp mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox with hydraulic clutch assembly. 0-60 in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 162 mph.
Delivered new to Luxembourg, July 1989, this exceptionally low mile example 911 C4 has had enthusiast – collector ownership to date as can be seen by it condition as well as being supported by its extremely extensive history file and invoices accumulated from new. Always serviced by Porsche factory authorized dealer and or specialists, this C4 Coupe received a thorough, major service, November 2023, it has led a charmed life to date.
