For your information – the now priceless 964 RS was built over 2000 times. The 964 Speedster approx. 930 times. The Jubi-911 “30 years” is logically 911 times, without being a real “WTL”. The legendary 964 turbo 3.6 almost 1500 times, and finally the two really rare 964 turbo “S” and 964 3.8 RSR with around 80 and 50 copies respectively.
In addition to its uniquely beautiful body, the “Turbo-Look” package primarily had internal values to offer, which gave the factory-made WTL Porsche what was recognized as the best braking system in the automotive world at the time. In addition, the “WTL” also received the chassis of the Turbo…
What are we getting at, you may ask?
Having one of the 702 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 WTL convertibles in the garage is certainly not a mistake for any type of user.
The collector, as well as the driver of this beauty, benefits in every respect from what a 964 promises. Over the last few years it has developed into one of the most sought-after Porsches from the air-cooled era.
Companies like Singer, Kaege, Ruf and others ensure a very tight market because they actively buy up the 964s offered worldwide in order to be able to ensure their “backdates” into the distant future.
Even if not all of the vehicles purchased in the meantime are suitable for rebuilding by the companies mentioned – they are very suitable for a more or less complete restoration back to a new, original condition and thus ensure the constant employment of the specialists for years to come.
This ongoing shortage due to purchased and stored vehicles will keep the general market for 964s globally high in price over the long term. In addition, the newly built specimens will only be released back into their new life in small drops and will certainly contribute significantly to stable, high prices.
The decision in 2024 to turn a Porsche 964 “inside out” and rebuild it has completely different economic consequences than, for example, around 15 years ago.
Starting from the minimum purchase price of a worthwhile base, which today costs 4 times as much as it did not so long ago. You can safely apply this multiplier to all the spare parts you need… in order not to go into detail, you can leave one fact unchallenged: Today, a really good 964 requires sums that reach well into the 6-digit region.
The logical consequence is that good 964s will remain rare and expensive until the distant future, provided they meet certain requirements. These attributes have always been an important topic, but today they are more important than ever!
Accident-free, origin, history, condition, mileage, model, color combination, number of units built… topics that must be taken into account given the current state of current market events.
The bitter realization from the experience of the last few years – not every 964 is worth every money it costs…
