Porsche 918 Spyder

The 918 Spyder’s 6.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack delivers an all-electric range of 12 miles and made use of “active regeneration” harvesting energy during braking. Extensive use of exotic metals and carbon fibre for the tub and body resulted in an all up weight of 1674 kgs – which for a hybrid with 2 motors was a technical tour de force. In addition to 4 wheel drive, the 918 featured 4 wheel steering which improved cornering, handling and stability.

The roof was removable and could be stored in the front luggage compartment – bringing the driver closer to the fantastic sound of the high revving naturally aspirated V8 race bred engine.

One of the most significant option packages on the 918 Spyder was the Weissach Package. An $84,000 option, it was aimed at reducing weight, aero efficiency and enhancing the model’s performance on track. The key features associated with the Weissach package were magnesium wheels and a large rear carbon fibre diffuser, which wraps around the sides of the car in the rear to aid in airflow. Additionally, the windscreen frame, roof panels, and rear wings were all carbon to reduce weight. This resulted in a 90lb weight reduction, enhanced aesthetics and an improvement in dynamic performance.

The 918 Spyder was first shown as a concept at the 80th Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. On 28 July 2010, after 2,000 declarations of interest, the supervisory board of Porsche AG approved series development of the 918 Spyder. The production version was unveiled at the September 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Production began on 18 September 2013, with deliveries initially scheduled to begin in December 2013, and a starting price of £711,000. The 918 Spyder was sold out in December 2014 and production ended in June 2015.

The car is number 630 of just 918 examples produced.

Finished in Grand Prix White by the factory this car is also fitted with a full retrospectively supplied Weissach package which was fitted at Porsche GB at great expense. The carbon door mirrors, roof halves, and rear spoiler were fitted as factory options. The carbon front splitter, front and rear ‘winglets’, and Weissach Pack 20-inch front and 21-inch rear centre-lock lightweight magnesium alloy wheels with anodised coloured (red left, blue right) centre-lock wheel nuts were subsequently fitted by Porsche Centre Reading.

Inside the car features Onyx Black leather and Alcantara-trimmed upholstery with contrasting yellow seat belts and factory racing harnesses, seat piping, and embroidered ‘918 Spyder’ lettering on the headrests, as well as a full factory-fitted carbon-fibre interior trim package (as per Weissach Pack cars), highlighted by aluminium accents.

The factory specification includes a reversing camera, a multifunctional Alcantara steering wheel, PCM with satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, five switchable driving modes, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, a front axle lift system, a cup holder, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, rain sensor, cruise control, Porsche Active Suspension Management, LED headlights with daytime driving lights, and a Burmester sound system.

No.630 comes with owner’s handbooks, a Porsche factory charger and a Porsche factory car cover.

The White paintwork has full PPF fitted, as well as a windscreen protection film, at a cost of around £7,500 – bills on file.
