What is probably the first Porsche 912 E of all time is for sale. The former Porsche AG test vehicle is one of the rarest 912s in the world. The Porsche painted in "Light Yellow" was manufactured in 1974 as the 911 S in the US version. The development team controlled it even during production: the car left the assembly line in Zuffenhausen without an engine and transmission, but was given a flat boxer from Volkswagen in Weissach instead, making it the first 912 E prototype. After Porsche AG, the 912 E went to a buyer in southern Germany through the mediation of the then Porsche development manager Helmuth Bott (documented). His family sold the car 29 years later to the Prototype Auto Museum in Hamburg. In 2021, the Porsche specialist Jan Adams (retrotec) acquired it and carefully made the car roadworthy again. In 2022 the underbody was ice-blasted. The Porsche is in its authentic original condition and has deliberately never been restored. This gives the new owner the opportunity to drive a prototype as it has worn through time – or to restore the 912 E to crystal clarity. The vehicle itself has its own, unusual fascination.
