In September 1973, a new era began for Porsche: the future 930 Turbo was presented in the form of a prototype at the Paris Motor Show, with the aim of producing a small series for approval in Group 5 of the FIA. The success was such that Porsche revised its expectations upwards, and the following year presented the model in its almost final form. This is how the first production 911 equipped with a turbocharged engine appeared. Produced from February 1975, the Porsche 930 Turbo will be the initiator of a great lineage.
Produced until 1989, first in 3.0L then in 3.3L, its career ended in France with a very special edition, designed by the importer Sonauto in collaboration with the Porsche factory. To celebrate the end of the legendary 930 Turbo, the last ten 930 Turbos from the French importer stand out clearly from the rest of the production. An internal memo from February 1989 available in our file precisely describes the improvements to this model.
Still equipped with the 5-speed mechanical gearbox and the 3.3L flat 6-cylinder engine, the main specifications of this version are as follows: matt black varnished paint, all black leather interior, sunroof, no rear designation, an engine pushed to 330 horsepower, a rectangular and mesh front spoiler, a sports chassis with Bilstein shock absorbers, a body lowered by 38 mm at the front and 27 mm at the rear, a 35 mm track widener on the rear wheels, seats Type 959 leather sport with a gradient from black to light gray, an electric console with electrically controlled radio cover, and finally an integrated Pioneer Hi-Fi system.
Today commonly referred to as the 930 Turbo S, this very special series remains relatively unknown and yet in some way inaugurates the concept of the 911 Turbo S, which today has obvious commercial success within the Porsche range.
