The vehicle in detail

While Porsche has long offered customers the ability to customize new vehicles with personalized features, the department for this – Special Wishes or Sonderwunsch in German – became formalized in the late 1970s. At the time, Porsche’s Motorsport department was building and winning major endurance and sprint races with 935 racecars. The 935 differed from its predecessor, the 934, in many ways, but the most obvious to enthusiasts and race fans alike was its flattened, slantnose appearance. Drivers of the production variant 911 Turbo (930) naturally wanted what they saw winning on-track and Porsche’s new customization department, created to fulfill the special wishes of those customers, was happy to oblige. At that time almost nothing was too far-fetched at Sonderwunsch; special bodies, unique paint, bespoke interiors, and high-horsepower engines were all available to those who were in the know.

By 1987, the equipment level for Slantnose (internally known at PCNA as the 930S) became formalized under the option code M505. According to an internal PCNA memo dated 8 September 1987 and titled “Description of 930S Version,” the Slantnose specification ($28,422) is described in detail for 1988 which includes modifications to the body, chassis, and interior. For the price of a well-equipped 924S, buyers not only received a highly-modified turbocharged 911 built by hand by Porsche Exclusive—but rarity as well. Only 271 Porsche 911 Turbo Slantnoses were delivered to the U.S. market for 1988 with just 112 specified as the costliest Cabriolet variant.

Ordered in classic Guards Red over Champagne and Black special leather upholstery this matching numbers 911 Turbo was also specified with a number of extras including limited-slip differential, front seats with lumbar, and heated front seats among other options. Notably it retains its original Goodyear Eagle VR tires on its Slantnose standard body-color Fuchs alloy wheels with Porsche crested center caps. It is believed that the car was delivered to Valley Imports Inc. of Fargo, North Dakota in March of 1988. The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report later records ownership in Wisconsin in 1994 with 1,922 miles on the odometer with subsequent ownership in Florida and paperwork confirming servicing by Orbit Racing of Riviera Beach in December 2019 with a low 2,576 miles on its VDO odometer. At the time of cataloging this unmodified, matching numbers Slantnose Cabriolet featured just over 2,700 miles and is completed with its original toolkit, air pump, and books. Offered with a copy of its Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity confirming its factory original Slantnose option, build details, and matching-numbers status, its low mileage and time warp condition offer a slice of 1980s Porsche at its finest.
