As iconic as the “turbo” moniker is on the tailgate of Porsche’s 911 after almost a half-century in production, the initial iteration of the model was groundbreaking in more ways than one. Not only was the 930 Turbo the range-topping model for Porsche’s 911 throughout its production run, but it was also the fastest production car in Germany upon its introduction, becoming a symbol of 1980s culture from its almost otherworldly whale-tail spoiler to its downright frightening performance numbers!

The original G-Series of 930 Turbos, of which this particular car is a great example, went out of production with the advent of the 964 series after 1989. As such, this car is a later-production example and benefits from a number of particularly interesting details. It completed production in March 1987, outfitted with optional heated front seats with lumbar support, a Blaupunkt stereo, limited-slip differential, alarm system, electrically adjustable sunroof, and most interestingly, option code 900, “Tourist Delivery Preparation.” According to a scan of its “Order Confirmation for Delivery in Europe,” the beautiful Black-over-Black 930 Turbo was ordered new by the selling dealer in Park Ridge, Illinois, outside Chicago, on behalf of its first owner, who was to take delivery in April of that year at the Porsche factory in Stuttgart.

After what was surely a thrilling European experience with his Porsche Turbo, the original owner took delivery of the car in Illinois, following its delivery through Charleston, South Carolina, first titling the car in July 1987. In fact, the car is understood to have remained with the original owner in Illinois for some 26 years, up until its sale in 2013. Thereafter the car was sold to well-known Porsche collector Victor Gomez in Puerto Rico and serviced at his Garage Europa Porsche, for which service records remain on file. Recent service work on the car under previous ownership included four new tires, an oil change, new starter, and an air conditioning recharge. The car is offered with just over 6,800 miles at the time of cataloging and remains in excellent overall condition, offered with an original toolkit, a Porsche-issued CoA, a copy of its Tourist Delivery confirmation, service records, and owner’s manuals with tourist delivery booklet, and more.

Any Porsche Turbo is a special and particularly desirable car. A 930 Turbo, however, from 1987 is now nearing 40 years of age, so it is particularly special to offer one with such low original mileage, long-term single ownership, and a very desirable specification in Black over Black. Opportunities such as this one come along all too infrequently!
