For Porsche to race in FIA Group 4 competition, their racecar had to be homologated as a production model and thus the 911 Turbo was born for 1975, known internally as the 930 Turbo. The first 400 units qualified Porsche to go racing with these cars. The original Turbo, known as the Turbo Carrera, were initially fitted with a 3.0 Liter flat six-cylinder turbo engine producing 260bhp. For 1978, Porsche revised the 930 with a larger 3.3 Liter turbo engine rated at 300bhp. Porsche also revised the large rear spoiler as well officially naming the car 911 Turbo worldwide.
Factory options include: Color to sample paint, Limited slip differential, Sport seats L/R, Black roofliner, Electric sunroof, Electric exterior mirror-Right, Loose fit protection foil, Equipment for California and Pirelli tires.
This 930 was produced in March of 1978 and was first purchased through Trans World Motors in Goleta, California. Remaining in California, the 930 was sold to Mr. George Primbs of Santa Barbara, CA in 1981, Mr. Primbs enjoyed incredible long-term collector/enthusiast ownership for the next 38 years. Mr. Primbs took exceptional care of this 930 over the years, although using it sparingly throughout his ownership with only 4,000 miles added during his ownership. Included are all service receipts dating back to his purchase.
In 2013, the engine received a complete engine rebuild and thorough servicing due to a seized camshaft lobe. All work was carried out by Schneider Autohaus of Santa Barbara, CA who had carried out all service to that point in time. A rebuilt turbocharger as well as new oil cooler was also installed at that time. All documentation is included, the cost totaling over $26,000.
To date this 930 has been in exceptional care since new and meticulously maintained. In recent Porsche collector ownership, another $6,000 was spent to install an original 930 European exhaust system (original thermal reactors are included), oil lines, valve adjustment and fluid service. A new battery was also recently installed.
An icon of Porsche’s history, this 930 is a superb example that runs strong and tight. Presented in an extremely rare color, it is ready for immediate use and enjoyment. The 930 is accompanied with its original window sticker, service records from new, originals books, tools, jack, original spare and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
