Exterior
The black metallic paint does its best to disguise the true potential of the Turbo. This does not alter the fact that the most popular version under the ‘Elfers’ can already be recognized from afar. Modified bumpers with extra large front and rear cooling slots, a bottom lip spoiler, side skirts, Turbo Design rims with bright red brake calipers, air inlets behind the doors, a ‘fixed’ adjustable rear spoiler and a special exhaust system make it very easy for experts to distinguish the blown 996 from are atmospheric brothers.
The added titanium wheel bolts, subtly hinted that the former owner was not so much interested in the optical distinction. If, on the other hand, we think of the adjustments that have been made subcutaneously, we find the dark gear all the more fitting with this Porsche. It makes the German speed demon more mysterious, and therefore all the more desirable …
Interior
We are pleasantly surprised by the composition of the interior: here you will find chic brown leather upholstery, an Alcantara sky and an electrically operated sliding / tilting roof. The sports seats are also electrically adjustable and are also heatable. There is a Bluetooth telephone connection and a Becker radio / navigation system should prevent you from getting lost when the gas goes on. Because indeed, behind this stylish appearance super powers are hidden. So do not be surprised if the integrated Porsche weapon in the head restraints seeks frequent contact with your mind …
Technique
We like to talk about the ‘standard’ crushing performance of the 996 Turbo, but it does not make much sense in this (special) case. After all, all specifications can go down well if you take the technical upgrades of this unique one: K24 GT2 Evo turbochargers, 997 GT2 RS intercoolers plus a hand-made exhaust system for this combination, GT3 brake air ducts, calipers and – discs (350 mm) with Pagid brake pads, a clutch pressure ball and a special short shift transmission including a reinforced Porsche Motorsport (Sachs Performance) coupling that can withstand a maximum of 870 Nm of pulling power. Whether this 996 comes close to the maximum? Hell yes! Measured is 810 Nm at a standard boost pressure of 0.9 bar.
To get to this asphalt curling torque and a power output of 602 hp (we keep repeating the number, just because it sounds so bizarrely good!), However, more was removed from the shelves. And not only at Porsche itself. For example, new hoses, spark plugs, ignition cables and cooling pipes have been installed. Also ticked is: stronger dumpvalves, a K & N air filter and TC Concepts air filter housing with extra air scoop, a 5 bar petrol pressure pump, new radiator hoses and ditto Samco Turbo hoses. Let one thing be clear: the naming of the list takes longer than the construction of an opaque smoke curtain. And of course we mean that literally.
