The vehicle in detail

In 1973, Porsche quietly ushered in the conclusion of several eras. The imminent 1974 updates promised substantial stylistic and technical transformations across all 911 variants, marking the first major overhaul since its debut a decade earlier. Notable changes included the introduction of large impact bumpers and a revamped interior, signaling the departure of the beloved “long-hood” 911 silhouette and the extensive palette of 27 color options. Porsche, renowned for its incremental updates, initiated the rollout of the 2.4-liter 911 T engine featuring the new Bosch K-Jetronic (CIS) fuel injection system in January 1973. These early 1973.5 models, destined for the U.S. market, introduced the torque-enhancing CIS injected Type 911/91 engine, soon to become standard in the 911 lineup the following year.

This 1973 Porsche 911 T Coupe boasts a spectacular period color scheme, finished in its ever-popular original shade of Aubergine—now a modern Paint to Sample shade—over a Black upholstered interior. The older repaint in its original shade that is beginning to show signs of age including crazing and paint chips, contrasted with bright trim work and driver side mirror—perfect complement to its numerous correct-style black trim elements. Inside, the cabin features correct black seat upholstery, a dashboard in good condition, uncut door panels, and carpets. The interior appointments include hand-crank side windows and a period-correct Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. Notably, the car is equipped with air conditioning, which was thought to have been installed when it was new.

Under current ownership, the car has benefited from nearly $4,000 in detailing and service work. This work was completed throughout 2023 and includes replacing the fuel pump, shifter bushings, fuel hoses, and throttle pedal and the installation of a new point-less ignition kit for the distributor. As presented today, this 1973 Porsche 911 T Coupe is a classic example that should be enjoyed as Porsche intended with its matching-numbers engine while the option remains to embark on a journey to enhance it through further restorative efforts if so desired.
