Model history
The history of the Porsche 911 begins in 1963, when the successor to the Porsche 356 was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt. One year later, series production of the model started, and it was given the name 911 shortly afterwards. Initially only available as a coupé, Porsche introduced the Targa version from the 1967 model year, a so-called "safety convertible" with a fixed roll bar and removable roof. In 1972, a very limited and sought-after version, the Porsche 911 Targa 2.4 oil flap, came onto the market. The Porsche is equipped with the so-called oil flap, a filler cap for refilling oil.
