The evolution of the 911 has spanned countless generations, each with its own refinements and improvements, but always remaining true to the original DNA. One of the most sought-after variants is without a doubt the Porsche 911T 2.2 of 1970. This variant, with its unique specifications and limited edition, is one of the most sought-after classic Porsches today.
In 1969, the Porsche 911 underwent some technical improvements, including a 57mm extension of the wheelbase, which resulted in better roadholding and greater ride comfort. This provided more stable handling without compromising the playful driving characteristics that made the 911 so popular. Porsche continued to innovate and in 1970 launched the 911T 2.2, a model with a larger 2.2-liter boxer engine that allowed for a 15 hp increase in power. This allowed for an even sportier driving experience with a more responsive accelerator pedal function and improved performance on winding roads.
Of the total of 81,032 units produced, only 2,573 were made in the 911T 2.2 version, making this model very special. The unique character of this car is underlined by its rare extras and its impeccable restoration history.
A Dutch treasure: originally delivered in 1970
The Porsche 911T 2.2 described here was delivered new in the Netherlands on October 30, 1970. This example was delivered in the exclusive color "8484-H Blue Metallic", a timeless and elegant paintwork that perfectly accentuates the lines of the 911. This 911T was factory-equipped with the "M470 Comfort Equipment" package, also known as the S package. These included gold 911 lettering on the tailgate, velour floor mats, aluminum door sills, chrome door sills and the iconic 911S instruments. This example also had a leather steering wheel and green tinted windows, which further emphasized its luxurious character.
One of the most special options was the “Alloy Wheels 5” option: a set of original 14-inch aluminum rims including a fifth spare wheel. These rims were wrapped in Pirelli 185/70/14 Cinturato CN36 tires, exactly as the car was delivered in 1970.
An eventful life: From California to the Netherlands
After being delivered to the Netherlands, this Porsche was almost immediately exported to Sonoma, California. Here the car enjoyed the warm and dry climate for many years until it was put into storage and its glory days seemed to be over. The car stood idle for years until it got a new owner, Mr. Müller, decided to bring it back to the Netherlands.
What followed was an intensive restoration process. The car was completely disassembled and professionally blasted, with every screw and bolt removed and reassessed. The engine block, a masterpiece in itself, was entrusted to a specialist for a complete overhaul. No detail was overlooked in restoring the car to its original shine.
A masterpiece reincarnated: the perfect restoration
