The classic Guards Red exterior paint, which has been ceramic coated, hugs this 911’s curves. Lights and lenses are in great condition, including the glass fog lights mounted low on the front end which are prone to cracking. This car’s simple good looks are made even sweeter by the great condition of the exterior, and the option to take part of the roof off for open air motoring.
Tan interior provides a nice contrast to the Guards Red exterior, and is a great pairing with that classic red. Think how many posters featured a Red Ferrari or Porsche 911 with tan interior during the late 80’s………more proof that Red and Tan is an awesome pairing. The interior is in great condition, and in addition to the lighter tan seats and carpeting, the dashboard and upper tim are finished in a darker brown. The familiar 911 dashboard features clear gauges, and correct buttons, knobs, and trim pieces.
Engine output of the 911SC’s gradually went up as the years went by after hitting showrooms in ’78. As an ’81, this 911SC came from the factory with 204 horsepower, with a 5-speed manual transmission handling gear selection. Looking through the folder of documentation, it is apparent that the car was very well cared for over its lifetime. Service records show that since it’s move to the southeast part of the country, a number of notable service tasks have been completed – A/C system service, a new fuel pump installed, a new alternator, new clutch/clutch cable, spark plugs, adjust valves, brake pads front and rear, and of course regular oil changes just to name a few. The car wears 16-inch Fuchs black-spoke staggered-width forged wheels which are in great condition, including the outer polished rims which are prone to pitting. Its engine bay is tidy. The undercarriage displays no signs of abuse; the front valance is free of damage, body sills show none of the damage common from improper jacking, and suspension components all appear original and undamaged. The car is a pleasure to take out on the road and runs strong.
The handsome styling and color combination on this Targa demonstrates that the Germans knew how to create beautiful sporting automobiles. You don’t have to own a Carrera to enjoy a rear engine, air cooled Porsche of this body style. A 911SC like this one is an awesome car that will put a smile on your face. Whether the next owner of this car is a driver or collector (or both, as is pretty common for Porsches), they’re sure to find this is a 911 offering many years, and many miles of joy ahead.
