Model history
The Porsche 911 is Porsche's most famous sports car and symbolizes the company's success and founding. Its characteristic silhouette, which has remained largely unchanged to this day, gives it a high level of recognition and makes it an icon of automobile construction. Originally known as the Porsche 901, the 911 was introduced in 1963 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. In 1974, the model range received a comprehensive overhaul, with the most noticeable changes being the larger and more massive bumpers with black plastic bellows, which were due to US safety regulations. The 911 S belongs to the so-called G model, of which a total of 193,605 units were sold between 1973 and 1989.
