On May 5, 1971, Chick Iverson Inc., our local Porsche dealer in Newport Beach, California, delivered the 911S to the first owner, Truman Motors, in El Cajon, California. During Truman Vencill’s ownership, the Targa was periodically rallied at an exclusive invite-only club, Turismos Vistadores, from 1971 to 1983. In 1983, Filbert C. Aguilar acquired the vehicle with 30,000 miles and reportedly remained in storage from 1985 until 1990.
In 1991, the third owner acquired the 911S with 51,000 miles and kept a detailed log of mileage from the date of purchase to the present. In 1997, the vehicle underwent a comprehensive window-out repaint to its original factory color by Carl’s Colors, and the interior was reupholstered. After the restoration, the 911S was shown at the Annual Seaside Balboa Car Show on May 4, 1997. In 2002, at 70,782 miles, Newport Motorsports in Costa Mesa, California, was commissioned to rebuild the transmission with all new components, the engine was resealed, and the Carrera oil feed chain tensioners upgrade was installed. Most recently, new tires have been installed, and the oil and oil filter have been serviced.
Mechanically, it is powered by the matching 2.2-liter 911S engine producing 180 hp paired with a manual 5-speed transmission with four-wheel disc brakes. Recently, the engine was removed and taken down to the long block, and a complete detail was done. The Mechanical Fuel Injection pump was rebuilt, the injectors were removed, cleaned, and installed, all new ball socks were installed, and the throttle body and MFI pump linkage were synced and tuned.
It is complete with a Certificate of Authenticity, spare wheel, tool kit, Blaupunkt AM/FM 8-track radio, owner’s manual, original maintenance record booklet, and a detailed log book that notes mileage from 1991-2023. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a 911S Targa finished in its original color combination and equipped with its matching 2.2L flat-six engine.
