The vehicle in detail

PORSCHE 911 S 2.0 TARGA 170CV 1969 – In September 1963, Porsche presented the Porsche 901 at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor to the Porsche 356. A year later, starting with the 1965 model year, series production of the model began and it was renamed the 911 shortly afterwards. Originally built only as a coupé, the 911 had an integral body and was equipped with a new 2.0-litre six-cylinder boxer engine, which initially delivered 130 hp. From the 1967 model year, the 911 was also available as a safety cabriolet (Targa) with a permanently mounted roll bar and removable soft top. From the 1969 model year, the wheelbase was lengthened by 57 mm, resulting in greater driving comfort while at the same time more stable driving dynamics. In the following years, models with the additional designations T, L and E were launched. This generation 911 Targa was in production from 1967 to 1973. Porsche introduced the Targa model in response to increased safety requirements for open-top vehicles in the USA. Due to various engine modifications, the sports version of the 911 initially had an output of 160bhp. In addition to the superior equipment, the S model was the first 911 to receive ‘Fuchs’ wheels with their distinctive 5-spoke design. Our example is a rare ‘Long Wheel Base’ version produced in 1969, with 170bhp Bosch mechanical injection. Only 614 examples were produced. It was sold new in France by the official dealer at the time, Sonauto, and came to Portugal in 1982. It was exhaustively restored and went through a fully documented process. It is equipped with period Recaro ‘Bacquets’ and Fuchs wheels. It is certified as a Classic Car of Historic Interest by the Museu do Caramulo.
