Model history
It is not immediately apparent from the rear-engine coupé that the Porsche 911, presented in 1988 as the Carrera 4, is 85 percent a completely newly designed car. The 964 still has the over 30-year-old body of the original model – and there is still an air-cooled six-cylinder boxer in the rear. The interior has also been taken over practically unchanged from its predecessor. The different rims and a nose correction are immediately visible: the previous bumpers with the side bellows were replaced at the front and rear by one-piece plastic panels that are more integrated into the body. In addition, the displacement increased from 3.2 to 3.6 liters, and the power also increased.
